DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL — JUST VEND (illegal invaders not treated as lawbreakers)
NY POST ^ | July 19, 2005 | LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Posted on 07/19/2005 8:55:22 AM PDT by Liz

THE ISSUE: A law banning inquiries about the immigration status of New York City street vendors.

*****

Mayor Bloomberg has betrayed all the legal residents of New York City — citizens and legal immigrants alike — by signing a bill allowing illegal aliens to obtain street-vending licenses ("Council OKs Cindy's Pet Project, June 24). Too many politicians act as if New York City is obliged to make it easier for foreigners to violate America's immigration laws. This misguided bill spares would-be vendors the inconvenience of being asked whether they actually have a legal right to work in the U.S. We already have a national-security problem directly connected to our epidemic of illegal immigration. Bloomberg, who signed this law with great fanfare, should be working on ways to provide fewer incentives to break our immigration laws, not more. George Mole The Bronx

****

Illegal immigration should be prosecuted on more levels than just as a federal crime. Since illegal aliens threaten state and local economies, those jurisdictions should have the authority to enforce the law as they see fit. James McCaffrey Brooklyn

****

I am amazed at how uninformed Americans are of the negative effects that undocumented and illegal aliens have. Unregulated immigration costs taxpayers in educational funding. It overburdens hospitals, denying citizens life-saving healthcare. It overcrowds neighborhoods, lowering property values and quality of life standards. Until these illegal invaders are treated as lawbreakers, this serious problem will only perpetuate itself. Greg Horak Hicksville

****

We should consider the poem on the Statue of Liberty that describes immigrants as the "wretched refuse" of the countries they came from. Descendants of those legal immigrants, who sacrificed to achieve the American dream, must cringe at the rights that are thrown at illegal aliens today. Patricia Elkins Hollywood, Fla.

Seems like Hillary is applying her pressure wherever she can. People nationwide should write to Bloomberg and complain about his dastardly disrespect for what citizenship means and how it's valued in this country.

When one group of people is give the ability to circumvent the law other groups will ask for the same right and will cause a great deal of trouble if they are denied that right. Even though it is not a real right they perceive it as a right.

There are street hot dog vendors swarming all over the place in Washington, D.C. in their little silver trailers and I have often thought how easy it would be for one of them to explode. Perfect place to put a bomb under the noses of what passes for security here. For a long time there was one parked right by the Supreme Court, at Maryland Ave. and First NE, across the street from the Capitol. Gave me the creeps. They line Constitution and Independence Avenues and are, in my opinion, dangerously close to some very critical buildings. At the least, they tie up traffic during rush hours to the point where one is tempted to ram them with one's SUV. At the worst, they are a security hazard that would not be tolerated, say, in the Metro or anywhere else but DC streets.

What I don't understand is why governments don't just make it clear to those with misperceptions about what "rights" they don't have but think that they do, why governments won't just come out and directly clarify and renounce the confusion.

I mean, citizens are definitely not indulged or pandied to about anything. On the other hand, what legislators/elected officials are setting as to precedent in this and so many other issues that indulge/excuse/permit illegal immigration, what they're establishing is a second-class status for citizens in the country: be a legal citizen/resident, go to the back of the class.

I don't get it. It's as if they're breeding an entire category of people in the country who disrespect laws, have no intention or understanding about citizenship, just want their "rights" even though they aren't even citizens.

I don't get it.

I don't get it.

That is what some government people are after. They want us to question the difference between ourselves and illegals that have the same "rights".

You beat me to it. As long as the illegals are smokefree they should be okay but God help a tax-paying citizen who lights up in the wrong place.

New York City------It should change it's nickname from The Big Apple to The Big Tortilla.

I have long thought the same in NYC where most of them (alomg with half the yellow cab fleet) are owned/operated by muslims. A coffee cart blitz at rush hour would kill/maim hundreds.

Sounds easy enough.

Do not buy from ANY street vendor unless they can show an Social Security Card..Visa..whatever form of I.D. that "The People" (the buyers) decide they want to see before purchasing the product.

So innocent street vendors get caught up in this? Doesn't sound "fair" to the innocent? That's how our government has been getting away with a lot of things in recent memory..they stalk on how "We the People" "feel".
Well, street vending is like any other industry..they know each other..let the citizen vendors point out the illegals..or show their outrage through legal means..it is THEIR business it can hurt.

No citizen HAS to buy from a street vendor if there is a chance that it will be supporting illegal immigration..if the City Fathers won't stop the outrage..citizens can stop it themselves.

Aiding and abetting is no longer aiding and abetting . .

(Anyone care to guess what civic, state, and federal leaders across the country know that you do not?)

Because government has spent the last 100 years trying to merge the two different forms of *law* that comprised our Republic (and protected our rights) into one form of *law* under the ~legal system~ where IT makes all the ever-changing rules.

Why in the world would they have ANY desire to clarify it now?

Your president, George Bush and Vincente Fox have been planning this for years. America, as you and I have known it, is on the way out. The new country dominated by Mexicans is fast on the way in.

Bush loves slave labor, and the Democrats love votes. The two have been in bed with Fox for many years. When the country goes to war with itself, World Court Judges will step in and bring in a national police force that will rule America with an iron hand. Both Mexicans and Americans will be under a fist of power every bit as strong as the old Soviet Union.

This can be done by importing police from around the world, because in 2008, Bush will have the borders completely open, and anyone can come into America with no passports even. Right now, the traitorous politicians are giving the Mexicans and other illegals much leeway, but believe me, one day the hammer will come down.

We will all be slaves, except a few of the elite, and our world masters will take no backtalk.

The hypocricy of the Bloominidiot knows no bounds, does it?

Bloominidiot and the city council is now ding to the legit street vendors what they did to the bar and tavern owners - intentionally erode their customer base.

You are an alarmist trying to scare American citizens with the truth! Stop it right now. You are no better than johnny7 with his Tancredo: No apology

or Happy2BMe with his saying that there will be "rioting by the millions of illegal aliens put out of work over this."

I demand you stop this because I am getting scared. This is America and our President will keep us safe from harm. We have a lot of older women on FR and it isn't nice of you at all to be scaring them too. Stop it immediately!

.

If you want to make people angry, lie to them. If you want to make them absolutely livid, then tell 'em the truth.
