This is all just part of an attack on him because of he is governor. If you push all this too far, only Jerry Brown will be pure enough to be Governor of California.
The Democrats want all elected officials to have either no money or old money (like Ted Kennedy) or married money (like John Kerry)
G*d (Sorry - Can't use that word in California when talking about Government) forbid that someone who is actually a businessman, making money be put into a position of power.

The governor is able to accept the rent only because Main Street Plaza -- not the governor as an individual -- holds title to the property, he said. That's the way corporations work...live with it.
