Santorum: Mrs. Roberts' Work Not Relevant

The fact that Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' wife does free legal work for an anti-abortion group should not be relevant to his confirmation hearing, a Senate Republican leader said Monday.

Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, said Jane Roberts' work for Feminists for Life should have no influence on her husband's decisions as a justice. Santorum is one of the Senate's most outspoken abortion opponents.

"My wife has opinions on things that may or may conform with mine and I think most couples are in that situation," Santorum said on NBC's "Today" show. "I don't think your wife's activities should have any impact on what a judge is going to do. I certainly would think that he would tell you they don't, nor should they. It's the facts of a case and the law of a case."

Mrs. Roberts, a graduate of Georgetown Law Center, is a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where she specializes in communications and technology law. She was on the board of directors for Feminists for Life from 1995-1999 and at one time was its executive vice president. She currently does pro bono legal work for the organization.

It shouldn't be relevant. Did any democrats vote for Bush because his wife and his mother were pro choice? Did any Republicans vote against him for this reason? It's ridiculous.

Can't find anything to attack Roberts about, so attack the wife. Pretty pathetic.

Desperation.

They have little to attack Roberts on, so attack him through his family. I don't think the American people are going to like it. Especially women. They already lost that vote in '04, they risk losing it further if they go after his wife and children.

Where's NOW at? Shouldn't they be defending Mrs. Roberts?

If Mrs. Roberts is anti-abortion then why doesn't she put her money where her mouth is and adopt two children that others did not want? OOOPs, she did. There goes that arguement.

I'll say it again. The first thing out of the liberals mouths since Roberts was named has been abortion, abortion, abortion. This seems to be their only concern in life. How ironic.

I just read a story (in Goldberg's latest book) about a feminist who was pregnant with a set of twins and a single. She didn't want to move from her Manhattan apartment and "shop at Costco" so she aborted the twins and kept the single. Disgusting.

Was that the story from Salon.com? If so, then I think it was ok in the end for her to gratify her extreme selfishness, because she "agonized" over the decision for a little while. In the New Liberal Uber-Hedonism, you can commit any selfish atrocity just as long as you "agonize" over it for a little while. Somehow that makes everything ok, apparently.
