HANAHAN, S.C. - Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo told law enforcement officers that illegal immigrants are held to lower standards by the justice system than Americans.
"An illegal alien actually has a different system of justice here," he said Tuesday in a speech to about 30 officers. "If you're here illegally, you can get a pass."
Tancredo, from Colorado, has come under fire recently from some Hispanic groups for his calls for tougher immigration enforcement and a proposal to tax some of the money immigrants send outside U.S. borders.
Hispanic and Islamic groups called for his resignation in a Denver protest recently, citing Tancredo's suggestion to target Islamic holy sites if terrorists launch a nuclear attack on the United States.
In his speech, he urged the police officers to force political candidates from either party to clearly state positions on immigration laws.
Tancredo's stance on immigration has put him at loggerheads with the Bush administration and its support of an amnesty for undocumented immigrants from Mexico. Tancredo calls amnesty "a rotten idea" that would turn the flow of illegal immigrants into a "tidal wave."
"I support him in many ways," Tancredo said of the president. "On this, I think he is wrong."
Tancredo says he has no presidential aspirations of his own.
"I'm too short, I'm too fat, I'm too bald to be the president of the United States," he said.
Hooray, Tom! You're telling it like it should be told. YYYYeeessss!!!!
"We need a fence and need it now!!"
It says a LOT about this administration, and the two parties more generally, that our southern border is being ignored.
Tancredo is right about a separate justice system. First, if you are illegal and you are arrested away from border states (and admittedly, I don't know what they do in border states) INS will not come and get you. They tell the local law enforcement they don't have time, money, resources etc.
If you are arrested and a judge grants bond, you're gone. My sheriff requires a cash bond from all hispanics because the majority of them abscond and are never heard from again. We're a rural county (20,000 population) and he has three filing cabinets full of warrants that will never be served because the hispanic name on the warrant can't be found. He reasons that if the judge gives them bond he can at least require it to be a cash bond so some penalty is paid for the crime.
What amazes me more than anything, though, is how INS just tells them law enforcement to turn these illegals loose.
LOL! Thank goodness.
Hang 'em High ~ Bump!
"This is disturbing, because, like you, I am against illegal immigration.

I like Tom more and more.
He is a shoot straight guy, exactly what we need.
Tom for President!!
"An illegal alien actually has a different system of justice here..."
Different medical system, too.
Now that is a exellent idea! If Tancredo does decide to run for President how about Travis McGee as Vice President?
BOFA bump to the top.
There is no reason for American citizens to obey the law when illegals may break it with impunity.
Lawlessness begets lawlessness.
"Tancredo says he has no presidential aspirations of his own."
Senator Tancredo works for me!
"(I would just like a list of the laws which "really count" that I have to obey, and a list of the laws I can ignore, like the illegal aliens can.)"
This needs repeated over and over again! In fact, we need to all send a letter to our members of the House and the Senate and ask them this question. Wonder if that would get their attention if they got a few million letters, all asking the same question?
BUMP to your whole post!
I think they ignore mail for common plebes. Staffers feed them right into the shredder.
"I think they ignore mail for common plebes. Staffers feed them right into the shredder."
I think you're probably right. How dare the people these jerks "represent" actually expect to be listened to, huh?
Maybe I should shred the doosy of a letter I got yesterday from my traitorous U.S. representative, explaining why it was necessary for "national security" for him to vote for CAFTA. I should shred it and send it back to him, telling him that's the respect I have for him and his vote! :)
You got that right EEE. Sorry, had to ping him too 'cause he calls me names when I refer to him without pinging him.
Figured he'd be along soon enough anyway.
