Aidan Delgado can be painfully earnest, about everything from serving in Iraq to choosing a pizzeria, but even his serious stories end with a pause, as if to check himself, and then a joke at his own expense.
The more he talks, the more he laughs.
He laughs about being a 23-year-old war veteran who still hears his mother's voice when he watches too much television.
He laughs about the liberal parody that is New College of Florida, where he knows at least two students who've taken vows of silence.
And he laughs about the political conservatives who compare him with Sen. John Kerry, which he takes as a great compliment.
One right-wing critic called Delgado a "barking moonbat," which has become a running joke in his family.

He laughs about the liberal parody that is New College of Florida, where he knows at least two students who've taken vows of silence. Why are college Libs taking vows of silence? Is this some new type of protest?

Why question good news? :) Good point, but I have a fear that they will just become mimes (shudder).

I say let them protest, especially if it will shut them up!

Hadn't thought of that. Thousands of white faced single tear protestors, trying to walk against the blowing wind. Not to mention the boxes. The boxes.
You're right. There is a down side to vows of silence.
To: Millee
least two students who've taken vows of silence. Perhaps this will become contagious...

He calls those soldiers who don't see the war his way "idealogues".
All Leftists think alike...they are mainstream/normal and those who disagree are radicals.
Is it possible that his Leftist ideology makes him see things through that prism? I know what his answer would be.
To: Millee
Just out of curiosity... when was the last Tribune article sympathetic to a conservative? Why is this in the paper at all?

"Whenever his unit traveled, even for a routine move, soldiers would arrive, leap out of their Humvees and make sure everything was safe. Aidan had turned in his rifle, though, so he would take his place clutching a plastic spoon. When an officer asked what he thought he was doing, Aidan replied, 'I'm securing the area, sir.'"
[Shakes head] Yeah, I can't possibly see why Delgado says he was unpopular with the other soldiers.

On one side were Republican women in fur coats. On the other side were scruffy leftists yelling at them to sell those coats so troops could have body armor. In the middle was Delgado. In the 60s when all leftists were supposed to be hippies, there were a lot of trotskyites running around at the protests in their cheap wash 'n wear blue or black Robert Hall suits. They looked like low level IBM apparatchiks, only with even less sense of humor.
Sounds like they are back in style.

My loyalties lie with the soldier.
Until he betrays his country.
Then his military service is of no consequence.

This fledgling lefty got the full color treatment on the front page of today's Sarasota Herald-Tribune (remember, that's "SH!T" for short!), and the article continued for an additional full page and half inside the front section. They couldn't have given this shit-eating "hero" a more all-star treatment.
Do any of the many people who support our efforts overseas and are doing positive things to keep our nation safe and secure get anything even remotely like this kind of coverage?
You guessed it: not a chance in hell.
