One of my favorite comic strips, "Blondie," is celebrating its 75th anniversary, so now seems as good a time as any to talk about some of the things that have always puzzled me about the strip.

5) Has anyone ever noticed that Mr. Beasley and Herb Woodley, Dagwood's neighbor, appear to be the same person?
ROFLMAO! Yes, I HAD realized this, and yet never quite articulated it, brilliant!

I think "Blondie" represents good-old fashioned Americana. About the sandwich: I do wonder how someone can eat one so big, especially one that has what appears to be an unskinned, fresh out of the water fish in it.

At least Dagwood has a car now, even though he insists on being part of a car pool. That is downright un-American.

Thanks for post. With all the bad news we read, this was a bit refreshing.

I just want to know how Blondie gets that line above her head when she is surprised about something. Does it come out of her skull? Does it drop down from the sky? Is it invisible until she expresses emotions? What gives?

Zippy the Pinhead makes me physically ill......literally.
Every month or so, I try to read that strip to see if I can make it through without a "strange, uncomfortable feeling" coming over me..
I can't do it........the whole thing just gives me the creeps.

The biggest question I've always had is:
How did Dagwood, of all people, get THAT!!????? That doofus should be getting on his knees and thanking God every night he has a wife that looks like HER!!

Mr. Beasley . . Herb Woodley

She looks pretty good for 75. I saw her perform at Tower Records (!) in Manhattan five years ago, and she looked in good shape for a former junkie. She can still hit the high notes on "Heart of Glass" too.
