LONDON (AP) - An Iranian official on Wednesday warned Europe and the United States against referring Iran to the U.N. Security Council over the resumption of operations at its uranium conversion plant.
Iran's chief delegate to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Sirus Nasseri said such a move would be a step toward "the path of confrontation."
Iran had suspended uranium conversion and enrichment at its plant in the southern city of Isfahan under an agreement reached with EU countries in November, but resumed full operations on Wednesday after rejecting the latest EU offer of economic and political incentives.
Europe and the United States have appealed to Iran to reconsider the proposals, while diplomats at the U.N. nuclear watchdog - the IAEA - are debating how strongly to rebuke Iran.
The IAEA board could report Tehran to the U.N. Security Council, which has the power to impose sanctions.
"I think that would be a grave miscalculation by the U.S., and particularly by Europe," Nasseri told British Broadcasting Corp.'s Newsnight program.
"There is no legal base whatsoever to go to the security council. If it is, it is by political choosing and it will be a big mistake."
Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful, aiming only to produce electricity.
"What we have been trying to do is see whether it would be possible to continue our enrichment activity through an agreement with Europe," Nasseri said.
"It seems with the offer that the Europeans made that is no longer a possibility, at least not for the time being, and therefore we have no other alternative but to do what is our right," he said.

Then by all means submit the question to the UN. That's easy.

...a step toward "the path of confrontation."Yeah, a pretty flippin' small step. If they're worried about the US and Europe running to the UN to tell Mom, they really may not be to thrilled with the Israeli approach...

Now this is a truly brilliant decision. "Gee, let's follow the North Korean plan."
Yes, that will work every time. Next, they'll invite Jammah Cahtah to come to Iran and build some tents.

Rummy today said that they had proof that Iranians were giving aid and comfort to our enemies in Iraq, the insurgents. Namely the bombs being used have a Iranian signature, and a truck filled with explosive was stop at the border with Iran and Iraq. This is Cause for War, and we shouldn't even be going through the UN. Isn't this what the Republicans complained about when the Democrats were in power. It is time for Bombs over Tehran a play with an explosive climax, one of which I give two craters up.

As long as we don't have to win hearts and minds in the Iranian "street", we should do fine. If we're gonna kick butt, we'd better not leave anyone standing.
