'Jersey Girl' Defends Jamie Gorelick

A member of the group, the "Jersey Girls," who lost her husband in the 9/11 attacks, is defending 9/11 Commission member Jamie Gorelick against allegations that, as deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, she blocked critical intelligence that had identified the two 9/11 hijackers who destroyed the World Trade Center.

"Gorelick gets a bad rap with that whole, you know, 'wall thing,'" Lorie Van Auken told WABC Radio's John Gambling - referring to Ms. Gorelick's 1995 directive prohibiting intelligence agencies from sharing evidence on suspected terrorists with law enforcement.

Calling it insread "the Reno wall," Van Auken insisted that its primary impact was limited to the investigation into so-called 20th hijacker Zacarias Moussaoui, where investigators were prevented from searching Moussaoui's computer until after the 9/11 attacks. Van Auken offered no comment on reports that the Gorelick restrictions bottled up critical intelligence on 9/11 conspirators Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi, whose hijacked planes destroyed the World Trade Center.

But Rep. Curt Weldon, who revealed earlier this week that military intelligence had identified Atta and al-Shehhi as terrorist threats operating inside the U.S. two years before the attacks, blamed the Clinton Justice Department's "wall."

"There was no reason not to share this information with the FBI," he complained in a radio interview Wednesday night, "except that the firewalls that existed back then were so severe that they wouldn't let these agencies talk to one another."

Check out this link on some PR stunt Cynthia McKinney organized. Ms. Van Auken was on an interesting list of speakers.

Yes, I can see how somebody might think she's getting a bad rap; I mean, it's not like SHE wrote the memo or anything, is it?

Sheesh.......does this tell you how dumb they think we are.

And why does a wife who demanded THE TRUTH and claimed she got it from the 911 Commission feel the need OR the expertise to defend Jamie Gorelick? Are they pals now?

What this woman doesn't realize is that her family member might be alive if Clinton hadn't tried to hide the terror attacks in this country.

My theory for why the Gorelick "Wall" was created to begin with, at the direction of Clinton:

Clinton didn't want intelligence agencies putting together some things that a lot of us have long suspected. For instance, Kerry and some others in the Democratic party, have let it slip that the plane that went down over Long Island (I'm having a memory lapse on the flight # -880?) was shot down by a missile used by a terrorist.

Also, the Oklahoma City bombing was almost definitely carried out with the help of an Iraqi Republican Guard who has been identified by Jayna Davis in her book The Third Terrorist. Before you think I'm completely nuts, you should know that in that book and in public on television, Clinton's CIA DIrector, James Woolsey, has said that he believes the research in Jayna's book and "the world will owe her a debt of gratitude when the truth is known" about OKC. I have the sourcing for that in my files.

If Clinton had let the various intelligence agencies talk with each other, this would have all slipped out and Americans would have demanded action which would have resulted in war and we all know how much Clinton didn't want that.

Clinton also ignored the terrorist attack on the WTC he first time in 1993.

That wall was created deliberately so we didn't have to actually DO anything to protect our citizens.

So this Jersey girl can defend Gorelick all she wants, but what she's doing is protecting Clinton's legacy and it's his legacy that led directly to her husband's death.

Anyone who's willing to have anything to do with raging nutcase Cynthia McKinney is suspect. YES, that is "guilt by association" -- if someone thinks McKinney is to be taken seriously, then THEY are not to be taken seriously....

Well, guess what gang. Rep. Weldon is appearing on FNC this very moment and is letting the 9-11 Commissioners off the hook. He's blaming the staffers.

I can't print the rest of what I'm thinking.

The fact that Gorelick was on the commission rather than the witness list shows that it had no credibility.

I want to know more about this Defense Department spying in the U.S. Did they ignore Atta because it would expose the extent that Clinton was using this nation's military apparatus against the citizens of the U.S.

I suspect by January 2009 Bush will have to pardon his dad's friend Bill.

I was just listening to him. He trusts both Commissioner Chairs and they have consistently denied that they were informed about the operation Able Danger.

That's why we need Congressional hearings and under oath testimony. Did the staff hide this from the Commission or is the Commission lying?

Has anyone looked at the staff reports? Because a lot of stuff in the staff reports never made it into the Final report.

For instance, in Dec. 2003, the staff report mentioned Salmon Pak, but I don't think the final report thought salmon pak was interesting enough to even merit a mention.

He's pushing for Congressional hearings and investigations and we have GOT to support that. But I have never had respect for either the Commission chairs or the members. And I've been critical in the past of Weldon, but on this issue, he's top notch.

I'll support the hearings. But I don't support Weldon's prejudging the results.

The leader of the Jersey Girl group is the daughter of a local central Jersey (Dem) politician. I doubt any of the others were apolitical.

the dirty little secret that the MSM will never mention is the primary intent of the 'Wall' was to limit investigations into the Clintons and their friends.

Oh, I don't support pre-judging the results either, mewzilla.

It's possible that Weldon is playing a game and putting a public face on. He may not be certain that the Co-Chairs weren't briefed, but if he gets their support for other things and keeps pushing for Congressional hearings, they'll have to testify under oath.

FWIW, that wasn't the impression I got from the short bit I saw. But I hope you're right.

I thought that some of the headlines of articles that proclaimed the Commission "knew" were false because then the articles made it pretty clear that only the staffers knew.

Even the Able Danger people Weldon has spoken with only say they spoke with staffers. Pentagon officials say they notified staffers.

I haven't heard anyone who has been able to definitely say they spoke to anyone on the Commission.

However, I find it nearly impossible to believe that SOME members of the Commission knew. Gorelick surely knew as she was IN the administration at the time of the Able Danger operation.

I'm nearly 100% positive the entire reason the Wall was created anyway was so that Clinton didn't have to do anything about all the terrorist attacks on this country.
