Liberal religious groups challenge 'Justice Sunday'
Liberal religious leaders on Thursday criticized Sunday's planned rally to back U.S. Supreme Court nominee John Roberts and said its Christian conservative organizers should not drag religion into his confirmation fight.
"There is no one religious position on the Roberts nomination, no one religious view on the future of the court or the cases it will hear," Rev. Bill Sinkford, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association, told reporters in a conference call.
Sinkford and other religious leaders criticized plans for the evangelical rally, which is designed to build support for Roberts' nomination and highlight what organizers say is the court's judicial activism and hostility to religion.
The Sunday rally in Nashville, Tennessee, is the second televised church event co-sponsored by prominent Christian conservative groups like the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family. The event is titled "Justice Sunday II: God Save the United States and this Honorable Court."
The first "Justice Sunday" rally in April attacked Democrats filibustering against President Bush's judicial nominees, saying the Democrats were opposed to people of faith. It featured an appearance by Senate Republican leader Bill Frist.
Frist was not invited to speak at Sunday's rally after he recently broke with Bush and supported an expansion of human embryonic stem cell research. House of Representatives Republican leader Tom DeLay of Texas will speak on Sunday.

RELATIVISM WEEKEND!
He further went on to impress upon the reporters his position through a descriptive dance.
It's the liberal and leftist parishioners and ministers who have dragged politics into the church. And their views do not represent those of the general membership.
These anti-Righteousness quasi-religious whores acting as LOBBYISTS are starting to annoy me....
I went to a Unitarian funeral once. I was never sure who died, who the minister was, who the mourners were or when the service was over.
The LIBERALS are the ones who have dragged religion into this confirmation and also have used it to attack President Bush as well. Unfortunately, I've been to their church before and the Unitarians are a strange bunch of folks. My sister's mother-in-law is a staunch unitarian and she is as loony as they come.
All the conventional iconography one would expect in such a place was substituted with weird stuff like signs of the zodiac, representations of the solar system, instruments like astrolabes and globes. It was really strange. I was not standing in a church that day.
Universal Unitarian is not really a church because it's not a religion. It is a fellowship. You can meet some of the nicest, warm and caring people at their services, but, they share no common belief or creed other than a respect for everybody's belief and shared values. So, you will find people that believe in God but you will also find people who are atheist.
I've been to a few of the Sunday services in my city, and I will tell you that you will find them very politically oriented, and a lot of folks really left of center. Most of their community work is what I would call activist. However, I participated in their book club for a while, and we met at their Hall. It was me and 3 guys. One of them always brought beer. And one of them was pretty conservative and usually wore his hunting attire.
Initially, I threw my support to Roberts, however, after learning that he's pro stem cell research, I've changed my mind.
(Does that make me another Kerry - "I voted for it before I voted against it"?)
Any word from them on lefties dragging his R. Catholic faith into this?
Unless we base everything on moral absolutes, everything is on a slippery slope to Hell. Which is why the unrighteous and the unwise seek or permit abolishing the Bible from daily life and the public square.
From Romans, Chapter I:
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools...
A: A question mark.
Q:What do you get when you cross a Unitarian with a Jehovahs Witness?
A:Someone who knocks on your door but doesn't know why.
The local UU church posted their sermons. It's basically an anti-Christian hate group.
