WACO, Texas - Kitchen duties may have traditionally been viewed as women's work, but not at the White House. Until now: Cristeta Comerford has been named executive chief.
After an extensive six-month search, first lady Laura Bush announced Sunday that Comerford was chosen from hundreds of applicants to head the executive kitchen. A naturalized U.S. citizen from the Philippines, she will be the first woman and first minority to hold the post.
The 42-year-old Comerford has been an assistant chef at the White House for 10 years. She worked under former executive chef Walter Scheib III, who resigned in February.

After an extensive six-month search,...
The 42-year-old Comerford has been an assistant chef at the White House for 10 years.Well kudos to Cristeta Comerford on a promotion that I'm certain is well deserved.
But why did it take an "extensive six-month search" to bump her up a notch???

At the risk of sounding like carping, would the MSM have made a huge deal of this if Clinton had made this hire?

I once met a White House chef altough I am not sure he was the head chef.
I asked him what they made the icing on those cakes with and he said "lard and confectioners sugar" Still not sure if he was telling me the truth.

The NYT and WaPo are now looking into her citizenship papers.

She may not have applied for the position. As a matter of fact, perhaps she had to be nudged into it by being asked to prepare the meal for the Indian PM.

In this photograph provided by the White House, Chef Cristeta 'Cris' Comerford prepares a meal inside the White House kitchen in this July 17, 2002, photo. First lady Laura Bush announced Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, that Comerford has been named the White House executive chef. Comerford is the first woman to serve in the job.

Interesting coincidence that the last name of the person who wrote this article is "Pickler."
