Sheehan Feeling the Glare of the Spotlight
The Washington Post ^ | August 17, 2005 | Michael A. Fletcher

Posted on 08/17/2005 12:47:38 PM PDT by Cecily

CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 16 -- Cindy Sheehan rode into town 10 days ago, a forlorn mother with a question for her president: Why did my son die in Iraq?

But now the same wave of publicity and political anger that she rode to become a nationally known symbol of the antiwar movement threatens to crash down on Sheehan herself.

Conservative commentators and Web sites are taking aim at Sheehan with the same ferocity she has aimed at President Bush. In part, they are using her own words against her -- reciting such controversial comments as her vow to refuse to pay taxes to a government waging an "illegal" war and her desire to see Bush impeached.

The backlash is becoming a new object lesson in how saturation media coverage and the instinct for personal attack are shaping political debate. Some independent commentators said the pushback on the right has succeeded at scuffing the public sympathy and deference she had earned as the mother of a fallen soldier, and has shown how virtually any subject relating to the Iraq war and Bush's presidency is viewed through a partisan lens.

"All of this other BS just clouds my message," Sheehan said. "My message is that of a brokenhearted mom sitting down in front of George Bush's ranch, wanting to know why my son died."

What other BS, Cindy? Yours, or that of your moonbat friends? Oh, and your noble son died to protect other Americans from whatever Saddam and his terrorist buddies were up to, to give the Iraqis a chance to build a decent government, and to start the effort to drain the terrorist swamps of the Middle East.

Interesting, so some of the pro-Cindy trolls lately have been 'independant commentators'?

No, she didn't want to know why her son died in Iraq. She said she wanted to know why President Bush "murdered" him.

A quiet, heartfelt, personal letter to President Bush would have sufficed, Cindy, not this sideshow of a circus you've been party to.

The woman is a head case and should be removed from the public domain for the horse's butt she has become.
And....the mainstream media is right in there with her. All of them, including the Democrat "Traitor/Treason" Party are number one buttholes!!!

Damaged goods. Libs: toss her overboard and start slamming the Wild Rover again. Oh, and get a microphone in front of Howard Dean stat. And maybe Al Gore can grow a beard. Yeah, that'll return you to power.

wanting to know why my son died.

Because, he volunteered to be a soldier - and sometimes - unfortunately - sometimes, soldiers die.

Now - shut the hell up.

At Camp Soros, Cindy thinks she is the only one with a right to speak out. It is OK for her to libel anyone she wants, but when people respond, she wants to call a timeout and refocus the message. typical.

The backlash is becoming a new object lesson in how saturation media coverage and the instinct for personal attack are shaping political debate.

Sheehan decided to launch a political attack. And now "independent commentators" are lamenting that someone attacked back?

Sheehan keeps revealing her true motives and intentions, and they are not what was initially claimed. It is hardly a political attack to note her contradictions. The left thought her status as a grieving mother would somehow shelter her (and them) from all their inherent contradictions and anti-Americanism. Oops, it didn't.

"...deference she had earned as the mother of a fallen soldier..."

She is a disgrace to any mother whose son serves and/or loses his life. She has earned NO deference and has only dishonored her son in his choice and his sacrifice. She is trying to invalidate the US and Coalition effort to rid the world of the murdering filth which started the whole thing long since.

I wonder how she can stand the sound of her own voice or the sight of herself in a mirror. We can't.

"Some independent commentators said the pushback on the right has succeeded at scuffing the public sympathy and deference she had earned as the mother of a fallen soldier,"

Hogwash! Crazy Cindy herself "scuffed" the public sympathy and deference she HAD earned as the mother of a fallen soldier.

The moment she stepped out of that role and into the one of a life-long democrat, political activist, anti-war, Bush-hating, "F"-word using ditch b*tch... the moment she aligned herself with moveon and michael moore, the moment she rode into Crawford on the "impeachment bus" with American flags hanging upside down in the windows, and when she started lying about the lies she's told... THAT's when she lost public sympathy and she will NEVER get it back. GO HOME CINDY (if they'll take you back), the fat lady has sung.

Great fiction here.

Sounds like the opening scene of a Sergio Leone Western.

a ranch offered by one of Bush's neighbors.

Is the owner of the ranch a disciple of David Duke by any chance?

I pulled the quote from the article.

MY comment on it was: "Interesting, so some of the pro-Cindy trolls lately have been 'independant commentators'?"

We've had trolls lately slamming us for not showing sympathy for the twit.
How about reading my post again.
Note that the first line is in QUOTATION MARKS.
That means it is QUOTED.

Note that the second line, my comment, is NOT in quotation marks.

The full quote from the article says this:
"The backlash is becoming a new object lesson in how saturation media coverage and the instinct for personal attack are shaping political debate. Some independent commentators said the pushback on the right has succeeded at scuffing the public sympathy and deference she had earned as the mother of a fallen soldier, and has shown how virtually any subject relating to the Iraq war and Bush's presidency is viewed through a partisan lens."

Note the line about 'independant commentators'.
I'm willing to bet those 'independant commentators' were the trolls we've had lately.

Casey earned the deference, by volunteering and spilling his blood.
