Well, lip service will be paid to the border issue anyway. But no effective action will be taken. Business as usual.
It's you who's living in a dream world. Immigration is the #1 issue with a huge number of voters now, and the anger is growing every day. Unless some effective action is taken soon by Bush and the Republican Congress it will cost the GOP control of Congress in 06 and the White house in 08.
People who don't live in areas where illegals are swarming like flies on doggydo may not realize the depth of the anger and frustration that is growing by leaps and bounds out here, and obviously the great majority of Repubs in office are totally blind to it. I know the Dems won't do any more about the situation than the Repubs are doing, but a large number of people around here are mad enough at Bush to give them a try.
Looks like you are buying it by spewing their talking points.
BTW below is Chinagate figure and new hero to some on FR, due to a minor administrative move, bill richardson talking at his true home.
What? Not one word about old Lee heading up the 9/11 Whitewash Commission? Must have been an oversight...
I hear a lot of similar comments in my neck of the woods (Arizona).
What leader in either party has done or proposed anything in the last ten years that would help in any way to lower oil prices?
Sorry Mr. Hammilton: Yoy're not going to win back Columbus (The Indiana 6th..), and people especially in IN are not going to vote Democrat in Big Numbers, on another note, I used to live in Columbus, IN; in fact my family lives there (I am college away) and "Mayor Fred Thompson" presides over one of the most corrupt cities in Indiana (not that Columbus is bad, but he puts up with corruption in that city..), and Democrats I have found are (mostly) for corruption, not the people.
Mike Pence and True Conservatives will continue to win if they stand up for what is right, and do not compromise ;)!
Mike Pence 08!!
No its not really (sure there are the "rich country club types" there, but) there are very few real conservatives in the city of Columbus (at least located in the power centers of that city, business, government, even the police, school teachers) its a liberal city, and becoming more so IMHO ;)!
This is, of course, the guy who helped head up the 9/11 Commission which may be about to get hammered.
He may be right in his predictions. BUT if the Rats don't adopt free market principles to solve all these problems, Social Security, Medicare, deficits (not with tax increases) then things will get ALOT worse. So win yes, but I think one of the big reasons we are having problems is that we just don't want to do all the heavy lifting. We want the easy way out. Let's exit Iraq. That will make us feel better never mind the longer term consequences. Let's take a pass on the hard work of reforming Social Security. That problem is a few years down the road. Let's make political hay by introducing protectionist legislation. Greenspan today lamented this. And so on. Yes, the Rats may win and then wonder why it was worth it later when things really go south. These next 10-20 years are going to be the toughest since the 30's and 40's and not for the faint of heart or the ill equipped politician.
You're right, it is becoming more liberal. Mostly by all the out of towners brought in to work here. Most white collar workers are from out of town or out of state. That leaves the blue collar workers who are mostly conservative in nature but not politically active.
Major Fred is real big on spending tax money. The power brokers here are the kind where you scratch their back, they'll scratch yours, if you have something to offer them.
caver I'm curious how do you feel about Mike Pence?
I and my friends are running a grassroots conservative organization to "recruit" Mr. Pence to run for somthing bigger than Congress (aka Pres), but we also know that he has to do what is best for his family, and what God wants him to do?!
He is on my company's board of directors. He should be booted off because I do not trust his judgement or insight.
Oh yes, I love Mike Pence. He's great! I've listened to him when he was still on the radio, before Garrison took over. I talk to people about him, but a lot of people I'm around aren't too all politically active. Most people's eyes glaze over if you talk about anything more than sports or actors.
as discussed..here ya go...can you believe this guy?
FYI
Maybe--then again Republicans hold virtually every office but mayor and they consistently win by big margins. I'm from Bartholomew County also (have lived in Hope all of my life) and I haven't detected any discernible liberal shift--unless you count an upsurge in wacko letters to the editor in The Republic--I have noticed that.
I agree, Hamilton is probably right. Voters are growing weary and feel that it may be time for a change. High gas prices, continuing war with no end in sight, federal budget out of control, unemployment worsening (especially in the rust belt), stock market stuck in neutral, etc. The Republicans in Congress haven't done enough to convince voters that there is much difference between the parties. If the Democrats are smart they will bind and gag the gays, feminists, illegal aliens, and minorities and run on a prosperity with peace ticket. The Dems are likely to retake control of the House and Senate following the 2006 elections.
HA HA..good one...Baghdad Bob strikes again..
