Former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind., speaks with guests befroe his speech at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner Thursday at Donner Center.
Discontent with the Republican Party is giving Democrats a good chance to earn big victories in the 2006 and 2008 elections, according to former U.S. Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Ind.
Hamilton, who is from Columbus, spoke Thursday during the annual Democratic Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner at Donner Center.
He told a roomful of local Democrats he thinks the party can win the hearts of Americans, but only if members adjust to the times and use all their tools to emphasize their platform.
The Democratic Party, he said, is responsible for social programs such as Social Security.
It stands for the working man and fiscal responsibility, while Republicans stand only for the wealthy and have run massive deficits, he said.
He told the audience not to be discouraged, because President Bushs approval rating is low and Americans are ready for a change.
Mayor Fred Armstrong who also addressed the crowd, said, Democrats are all about people.
We need you to get involved to run for something. We need your friends, your relatives and your neighbors.
Bob Pittman, executive director of the senior center, who also was invited to address the crowd, announced that the community effort to build a new facility called Mill Race Center has reached a milestone.
The senior center membership has donated more than $500,000, which was the goal.
The one-level, 30,000-square-foot center is expected to cost $8 million.
Yes, and they'll be responsible for the tax increases that will be passed in the next few years to delay its bankruptcy, as well as the ultimate bankruptcy itself.
They still don't seem to understand they have no platform. Social Security was what - 50-60 years ago? The only thing I have seen them speak out on is gay marriage and the right to die - from embryo to senior citizen. Perhaps this is tacit admission that death is better than living with their social programs?
>>if members adjust to the times and use all their tools to emphasize their platform.<<
And here is the Democrats' platform: ABORTION.
Yeah, and if a frog had wings...
If a boar had t*ts...
etc, etc.
Bush needs to lock down the borders........Bush needs to kick serious ass in Iraq. if either of these dont happen....anything can happen....lets not delude ourselves....American does not hate the war ...but if it remains stale with no forward motion....it will bring down the republicans....and as far as the border is concerned....the Dems...will grab on to whatever they need to, to get elected....even if they dont do what they promise.
Prediction: The party that lowers oil prices and secures the border wins!
"It will be the greatest election night in History". Terry McAuliff, DNC Chairman, 8:00 PM, November 2nd 2004.
Prediction: The party that lowers oil prices and secures the border wins!
Then nobody wins.
How does he talk with his mouth closed?
In other news...an Iowa farmer reports that a pig flew through his living room window early Friday...
Careful or you might reveal the next stage of the liberal plan for America!
You see, they almost gave it away with the Terry Schiavo case.....if your life has no 'value', it should be terminated. This will ensure that free healthcare and other social programs do not get bogged down with too many participants.
Of course, it will be "enlightened" liberals who decide the value of your life!
The Democrats don't have a platform except "Bush Bad!"
Build their gallows high
The way things are going right now, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a pendulum shift in 2006 and 2008. Bush's numbers are extremely weak, and he's done a poor job of rallying the base. We'll have to see what happens as the elections near.
And I guess the GOP are all about robots?
A lot of people ARE ready for a change.
If only there was a second party.
One that stood for borders, language and culture.
Our local Democrat Mayor got Hamilton here to speak so that more money could be donated for a Senior Citizens Center. The local seniors around here are the most vocal and the most active. They've raised $500,000 out of an estimated $8 million. That means the rest will be payed for by city taxes. If the senior citizens want a center, then let them pay for it. These seniors are trying to bleed the last they can before Social Security goes under.
