The New Orleans police chief says 15-thousand people are trapped in the city's convention center. And he says some are being raped and beaten.
Chief Eddie Compass says displaced tourists are "walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."
Compass said he sent eight eleven-man teams into the convention center. But as soon as the first team arrived, he said, "they were beaten back within 30 feet of the entrance."
Earlier, the city's mayor issued a "desperate SOS" on behalf of the thousands who are stranded at the convention center.
He also gave the go-ahead for them to march across a bridge to a dry area of the city and look for whatever relief they could find.
So far... but they've been days with no aid at all. You do know we are not talking about the superdome right? This thread, and this group, is at the convention center and have not had water or food since the storm.
That's the point, blessed....saying this slowly....IF there had been a plan in place....food and water would have been planned to be brought in...days ago.
N.O. is not an island.
Airplanes from other areas can bring in water....other methods of transportation from where the planes are able to land can disseminate water.

Helicopters can drop water and food...they do this in other disasters. Someone can live for a period of time on just water....without it, they die. Very simple.
What a disgrace this is for our country . What a statement this makes on our society and what greedy , low life animals some(many ) have become. This is sad , real sad.
Pop a few shots at those commiting rape and violence , thats what is long overdue. I'm sure the same thing would happen in any of our other hip hop gansta cultured urban centers. The day of helping your neighbor , having respect for eachother ,having dignity and being a gentleman is all but over .

And armed-chair quarterbacks on FR, getting their information from Anderson Cooper, railing at FEMA for not air-dropping water and food.
Now we've got Steve Harrigan on FOXNEWS bellyaching about people "out in the open no food, no water, angry, not getting what they expected."
It's a damned disaster, people!!
I've about had it with the MSM looking over the shoulders of people who are getting shot at and second-guessing every damned thing they do!!

It's a disgrace because it proves to the world that our government is inept when it comes to handling disasters, be they natural or from terrorists. This is Day Four. People have had little to eat or drink since Sunday night. They are dying.
Remember, those live cameras belong to the MSM and a reporter on Fox just said that they have tunnel vision. They really do not know what is happening except in the few spots where they are stationed.
I would hardly call the FEMA director a liar based upon the words of the reporters.
Exactly we can do better.

I said nothing to suggest the worst of this isn't man made.
My point is that generally, such as in the Tsunami recovery, most aid is accepted graciously and people help each other. Some aid is rejected for political reasons but not violently.
In the recent Angola outbreak of Marburg Fever, there was some resistance to the outsiders, but this is because they were afraid the WHO people were spreading the disease.
Only two weeks ago my inlaws were involved in a natural disaster in a third world country, with 900 dead, and there was no violence whatsoever.
