The New Orleans police chief says 15-thousand people are trapped in the city's convention center. And he says some are being raped and beaten.
Chief Eddie Compass says displaced tourists are "walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."
Compass said he sent eight eleven-man teams into the convention center. But as soon as the first team arrived, he said, "they were beaten back within 30 feet of the entrance."
Earlier, the city's mayor issued a "desperate SOS" on behalf of the thousands who are stranded at the convention center.
He also gave the go-ahead for them to march across a bridge to a dry area of the city and look for whatever relief they could find.
I hope it isn't that bad, because Uday Hussein was a truly depraved, heartless sociopath.
I really don't comprehend the lack of response to the convention center violence. It seems to me this situation justifies dropping in several hundred paratroopers ASAP to restore order. The slowness of the response to this crisis is astounding.

Folks from the Caribbean know how to rout these creeps. One of the big things that improved NYC was - aside from Giuliani, later - the arrival of lots of Dominicans. They took over the parks for First Communion and birthday BBQ's, knifed anybody who looked crosseyed at the women and children, and made life fun again in Manhattan. It's amazing what a population that simply ain't gonna take it anymore can do for a beaten down city.
It's time to increase my firepower.

I read a couple of hours ago that the mayor had ordered everybody out of the convention center and told them to start walking over the bridge. I assume this means in the direction of the SD, and it seemed that there would be police or NG along the route.

I don't care who suppresses these people, personally. But it's probably not the US military, because otherwise things would be in better shape. One of the big problems with this is that the Governor was slow to ask for any Federal aid, and while I am not a big advocate of the Feds, sometimes they're the only people who can deal with a situation of a certain magnitude. And this one qualifies - and I'd like to think my insanely high tax rate is at least buying something for somebody in this country.

I met the neatest people, too, from all walks of life--liberal Democrats with Gaia stickers on their bumpers, and plenty of military. The former student and volunteer who helped me (finally) make fire without matches or anything was a Marine from Camp Pendleton.

1. Public canings/beatings for offenses below rape, child molesting, kidnapping or murder.
2. Public executions for rape, child molesting, kidnapping, and murder.
3. No welfare.
4. Work farms for those who can't/won't get a job or gainfully employ themselves. No, I don't mean Parchman Farm, but farms where they must work. Good food, decent accomodations, and 40 hours a week hard work.
5. Other work opportunities like apprenticeships for those eligible. All kinds of methods - in connection with community colleges, road work, demolition, building, and repair of disaster areas. Also firefighting and cleanup after.
5. For orphans or fatherless children with incompetent mothers, places like Boys' Town - where mothers could also live, work, learn basic skills.
6. Execution for drug dealers.
7. If the illegitimacy rate doesn't go down, civilization is doomed. It is currently 80% (yes, eighty) among blacks, and one third for the population at large.
Please people learn from this! You are the only person you can count on to save yourself. Please think what you would do right now if disaster struck where you were. The gov is trying but is unable to help if you rely on the gov for help expect to be effectively placed in custody and have any means of protection taken from you!
