Enduring commentary on Live Thread III by LA Woman3 in post #1395. She wrote: "On election day, these people will be driven to the polls by the people promising them the world. On evacuation day, they have to fend for themselves. Pathetic."

That was Saturday night. Still plenty of time to move those buses before the storm arrived Monday.

Here's this (if you can use it).

NEW ORLEANS — On the seventh day, the mayor of New Orleans said he would surrender control of his shattered city to federal and state officials, and authorities issued dire predictions of the human cost of Hurricane Katrina.

Last night, Mayor Ray Nagin said his entire police force would be pulled off the streets by tomorrow and all firefighters, paramedics and emergency dispatchers also were being sidelined. They will be sent to Baton Rouge for evaluation and counseling, he said.

I am outraged that everyone seems to blame the federal government and not the city or state governments for their lack of response prior to and after the fact. We never saw Rudolph Guilliani lose the respect of his city!!

And Guiliani didn't cry about it, either.

Nagin is quoted as saying " I didn't use the schoolbuses to evacuate because they didn't have toilets"..

Well, just damn!

Thought I would read your outstanding post, on this, the hallowed first anniversary of the incompetent "leaders" that are still in the positions they held a year ago. Justice my arse! Nagin and Blanco, for starters, should have been out of a job by New Years.
