The mainstream media "blame game blame-a-thon"
Joe Aguilar | Joe Aguilar

Posted on 09/05/2005 12:17:46 PM PDT by Reagangan1

An interesting thing happened this weekend. After 5 days of blaming President Bush for Hurricane Katrina, the mainstream media found it increasingly difficult to continue their negativity and finger pointing. There was actually good news! And the mainstream media didn’t know how to deal with it.

They were still trying though. We were treated to a CNN news “babe” leading us through the nearly empty New Orleans convention center, always a snide comment at the ready. When she arrived at the line of National Guard troops who had been working night and day to evacuate the victims from the civic center, the most positive comment she could muster was “Yes, they are ‘FINALLY’ getting the people out, but the National Guard won’t even tell the people where they’re going!” Perhaps she failed to realize that the front-line National Guard soldiers had no IDEA where the people would end up, as that decision would be made by higher-level disaster relief officials once the people were evacuated. But news “babes” are like that: They never let the facts get in the way of a good, cynical snide comment or two.

Much of the mainstream media found itself having to argue against the visual images of refugees being given food, water, and assistance. “But it came too late!” the talking heads kept saying in their dog-always-returns-to-its-own-vomit pathology.

The empty media talking heads had gotten their talking points from their usual “research” sources: moveon.org and the myriad if leftist anti-Bush internet hate sites. The litany is familiar now:

* George Bush caused the hurricane because he didn’t sign onto the Kyoto protocol. * George Bush caused a “shortage” of National Guard troops in Louisiana because they “were all in Iraq.” * George Bush waited too long to act (even though he declared the entire area a disaster area two days before the hurricane arrived). * George Bush flew over New Orleans on Wednesday, and it was a “distraction to the rescue efforts.” BUT * George Bush failed to visit New Orleans “soon enough”. * When he DID visit 2 days later, it was just a “photo opportunity” designed to “deflect criticism.” * George Bush caused the break-down of the levees because he didn’t reserve enough money for levee maintenance (levees, incidentally, that had been ignored for 40 years by both Democratic AND Republican administrations alike). * George Bush was just “spinning” when he called the results of the relief efforts unacceptable and promised to fix the problems and do better.

And OF COURSE it was all George Bush’s fault. How could it not be? George Bush “hates Black people” don’tcha know? Kanye West (a degenerate rap star whose latest contribution to our cultural life is a touching love song entitled “HO”!) told us so on an NBC hurricane aid telethon. Gee, I wonder how THAT vicious anti-Bush diatribe got past the NBC censors? But Mel Gibson and “Christians”, boy those guys are DANGEROUS and need to be censored!

George Bush PERSONALLY planned and executed the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States just so he could “get the black community”. This was because of the black communities refusal to vote for him, and their support of Cindy Sheehan, the professional grieving-war mom, anti-war activist, and jew hater.

AND, just for good measure, George Bush personally made sure the hurricane would destroy an area of approximately 90,000 square miles, roughly the size of the state of Kansas -- or the entire nation of Great Britain for you internationalist types who aren‘t very familiar with “red states“. He did this on PURPOSE so the National Guard would have a harder time getting into flooded New Orleans to rescue people who shouldn’t have been there anyway.

Oh, but the media talking heads told us the 50,000 to 70,000 people who stayed were all too poor to leave the city, even though the Mayor of New Orleans had at his disposal fleets (over 400) of school buses and other government vehicles to evacuate those without cars and transportation days BEFORE the hurricane. This is the mayor who has become a mainstream media darling by blaming everyone except the guy whose face he sees in the mirror. Hmm, refusal to take personal responsibility, where have we seen THAT before from a Democrat?

The news media didn’t say anything about black people in the other affected areas outside of New Orleans but, of course, George Bush hates those black people as well. And what of all the white, poor people affected? Well, they just don’t matter because they don’t “fit” the storyline. And they have those “funny southern accents and bad teeth” and “just don’t look good on television”.

And middle class and even “wealthy” people who were wiped out? Well, they had it coming because they are evil capitalists who have been raping our environment, abusing the downtrodden poor, and they are now reaping the just rewards for being greedy pigs and capitalist tools.

The one thing we DIDN’T hear from the empty media talking heads is this: An analysis of the entitlement state, and why an entire class of people -- poor people of all races -- who had been conditioned for generations to be wards of the state, all of a sudden found it “shocking” that the government they had placed so much of their faith in wasn’t coming to help them IMMEDIATELY ! Government bureaucracy is inefficient and lumbering, you say? Say it ain’t so, Joe!

How could this be? The welfare check had always arrived on time. They had been taught that there were no consequences for illegitimate childbirth, drug use, criminal activity, and a refusal to take personal responsibility for their actions. The race peddlers and professional “victim-class” circus barkers had always told them it “wasn’t their fault”, and that they could always rely on race as a trump card.

The problem was, one hundred and fifty mile an hour winds don’t really care what color your skin is, and massive floods don’t really care what Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton told you about your “victim” status.

So what have we really learned then? Mainly, that the decades long liberal ideal of “big brother government” coming to rescue you IMMEDIATELY as soon as you get into a jam is, at best, naive, at worst, deadly. We have learned that there is really no substitute for personal responsibility and self reliance. But you won’t hear that on the mainstream media because, well, that’s “red state talk.”

Oh, and in case the mainstream media hasn’t reminded you again: George Bush was “selected, not elected” in 2000, the left “knew” Saddam had no WMDs, the “sanctions were working”, the war in Afghanistan was “put on hold” for the war in Iraq, and, finally, George Bush stole the Presidential Election in Ohio in 2004.

I just witnessed General Honore at a press conference bitch slap the MSM and chattering class experts so hard their ears will ring for weeks. I will wager they will go from their romantic description of him as John Wayne to his becoming a Satan reincarnate.

It was great to behold, as he told them they were full of BS with all their doomsday rumors and all the people sitting on their butts with their computer matrixes as to what should be done for communications and gasoline supplies, to get their tails down there and do it then. For the most urgent job of he and his men were rescue, save lives, assure water and food to those in dire need.

Yeah, I saw that too. I was GREAT! I hate the way these condescending liberal mainstream media reporters always try to trip people up with "clever" questions. They think they're being slick, but everyone can see them coming a mile away and everyone sees their nakedly partisan liberal agenda. No WONDER the media consistently polls lower than politicians and lawyers! Man, you've gotta be a REAL SCUMBAG to poll below lawyers!

Yeah, you're EXACTLY right. Just a few days ago, the MSM was referring to Gen. Honorae as "John Wayne", but now that he has BITCH-SLAPPED one of their snide reporters, he will become a "government hack, covering up George Bush's failure."

Even the CNN and MSNBC hosts right after the news conference (I switched over from Fox just to see what the Communist anchors would say) were chuckling at the way Hononrae slapped that reporter down.

My wife said she saw that too. As I looked for a replay, all I could find was Col. Cowan on Fox complaining how everyone in Washington DC took off early for the Labor Day holiday. My God, first there is Col. Hunt explaining the complexities of this problem...and blaming the governor, and now another Col blaming Bush and DC. I'm getting dizzy keeping track of the BS

I think that people are so jaded by the blame game that pointing the finger at someone just backfires these days. Anytime something bad happens, you can bet that partisans will point their fingers at politicians they don't like irrespective whether they had anything to do with it.

Follow the money on this one; in addition to his gig at Fox, Cowan also owns a private security firm. He's on the Gulf Coast in hopes of landing a government contract to assist in the search and rescue and security ops. I'm guessing that someone from the military or FEMA told Cowan thanks, but no thanks.

FEMA and DOD are far from perfect; but rest assured, the people who need to be on duty are at their desks this weekend--I've spoken to more than a few of them.

We'll leave the "expensive haircuts" to Bill Clinton and his buddy JOSE EBER who gave him a $250 haircut at the LA Airport and caused the entire airport to be delayed by 2 hours... Bill had to "look good for the chicks" after all.
