You make some very good points. If people want to move on and find something permanent, then going to the cruise ship would be taking them in the wrong direction.

I can't say that I would react kindly to being herded around at someone else's whim. We should be trying to accomodate these people as much as possible. It will save a lot of trouble down the road.

This is probably the result of the fact that many of them were literally held prisoner inside the Superdome (and probably the convention center as well). After experiencing that, i.e. being forced to remain inside the totally out of control, dangerous, food-and-water-lacking Superdome, I'd be pretty wary of being packed off to a ship too.

And if, heaven forbid, any of the refugees started reading Free Republic, it would reinforce the myths they've been told about how Republicans hate blacks.

Would you leave again?

Would you STAY?

I don't know......having been plucked from a situation where water is everywhere you look to going to a place where you're surrounded by water just seems to be a tad on the undesireable side to me.......

Such hypotheticals are judged through a blending of Chaos Theory and the Calvinist view of Man's free will.

What do you mean "would I leave?" The whole scenerio is impossible. I don't know where to begin answering the question in any useful way.

Two 55-passenger buses left Reliant Park this morning for Lexington, with just 17 passengers between them.

WHY?? Couldn't they have used ONE bus? The folks staying in Lexington could have been dropped off there, while those who were going elsewhere could have kept traveling.

I just don't get it...

But Hildy, tell me how they can have any control where they are now...Control is one thing they won't have for awhile, seems far more practical from the sense of privacy for me than that many people in one place. Safety for one.

You betcha. I lived their for eight sweaty years until the mosquitos helped me pack my stuff and forced me to leave.

The Freeper with the tagline 'Humidston' has it right.

Fear of the unknown. It's a natural fear.

Um, are y'all a little surprised that people who lived their whole lives between a giant lake and a giant river don't know how to swim and are afraid of water? It's hard to know whether to laugh or cry at this.

You have a point, though until last week it was only a theoretical concern, now it's taken on a whole new meaning.

I don't think I would want to be on a cruise ship under these conditions. The cramped hallways would be a nightmare for security. After a few incidents you could easily get trapped in your tiny cabin.

Also, you can't get to a phone very easily.

Send them to Hawaii and let them see a volcano for Pete's sake.

Keep'em moving around like that garbage barge that has been touring the wurld for the past 15 years.

My mothers housekeeper says that most of those in NO can not swim and a ship is truly frightening.

Whatever: they can't keep on camping out in the Dome. Send them to cities with Rat mayors who want to put them on the dole.

I don't know..you ever been on a cruise ship for any length of time? After awhile, you just want to GET OUT. And that's being around people who want to be there. I think it's a bad idea.
