Not sure about the Antartica comment, but you know accommodations on a cruise ship would provide privacy and better food than they are getting now at a minimum.

My daughter has gone on the ship out of Galveston twice and they are luxurious floating palaces. Not a bad place to stay for the next few weeks or months while you get your feet on the ground so to speak.

Have you seen the size of those cabins??? How are you going to fit a mother and 4 kids in one of those cabins?

I've heard that the ships that leave out of NO and Houston are the oldest in the fleet, and are not all that up-to-date and fancy (compared to the others). But, even though the rooms are t-tiny, at least they'd have a private bedroom with their own bathroom and sink, a bed better than a cot, a dining room, etc.

The problem with cruise ships is that they amount to floating apartment buildings. They are "complex" terrain.

That is a perfect environment for crime and gang activity.

If refugees are concerned about crime, I can see why they would prefer the barracks conditions of a public building, as it is easier, given reasonable resources, to keep order.
