Mayoral debate in Minneapolis takes odd turns(most bizarre quote I've seen lately)

A six-candidate Minneapolis mayoral debate dissolved into a shouting match Wednesday between two audience members.

The event, sponsored by the student senate at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College, started off with the typical opening statements but soon grew unusual. Mayor R.T. Rybak's name was misspelled on a slide, and candidate Mark Koscielski was identified on a slide as John Blackshaw, who is Rybak's campaign manager.

About 200 audience members had a chance to ask questions, and topics touched on such subjects as welfare reform, financial aid for college, corporate age discrimination and prison populations.

A black man went to ask a question of candidate Tim Nolan, starting with a five-minute historical perspective of racism.

A white man in the audience shouted for him to ask the question, saying we know all about racism.

The black man responded sarcastically, "You marched with Martin Luther King, I'm sure."

Before the questions, the candidates each gave a standard opening. Two candidates will advance from the primary Tuesday to the Nov. 8 election.

"What the cop should have told you is, 'Sir, because of my personal safety, I don't want to give up my gun hand.' You never want to give up your gun hand."

Love that Nolan.

Looks like Koscielski would be my pick. Gusn store owner and check his answer about a cop not shaking hands.

The God Dam- freaks are coming out of the frickin woodwork!!!!!! I recently drove down one of the major thoroughfares in Mpls., and witnessed several Children, no older than 10, run out from behind some cars and smash open parking meters with hammers for the change inside. What was even more astonishing was the fact that the street was filled with Black adults -- non of whom even batted an eye at what was happening in front of them.

This statement made me picture the guy sitting in the mayor's office sobbing over the plight of baby seals:

Marcus Harcus said he is a "very talented multi-genius" who represents "consciousness, compassion and courage." He continued, "Rest assured, if you vote for me, you're voting for humanity."

This one made me laugh, too:

Farheen Hakeem, membership coordinator for the Greater Minneapolis Girl Scout Council, played to the students. "I could be the youngest person ever elected mayor of Minneapolis. So let's vote and make change," she said, and later referred to sustainable economics, living wages and affordable housing.

She wants to make change? Like, four quarters for the soda machine? Maybe she'll sell cookies door-to-door to raise revenue instead of raising taxes. (But with campaign promises like "sustainable economics, living wages and affordable housing", I seriously doubt it)

More from Hakeem:

(S)he favored "severe, make-you-want-to-cry for-your-mommy" diversity training, especially when it comes to the transgender community.

And she's part of the Girl Scouts? I wouldn't want my nieces associating with a liberal nut-job who spouts that line. And if she wants "severe, make-you-want-to-cry for-your-mommy" diversity training, she's clearly a left-wing fascist who's not even qualified to be elected to the office of dog-catcher.

"How'd you like to be a cop in Funnytown ?"

No problem. I'm up-armed better than the MPLS city council would ever allow them to be.

Don't doubt it. Remember that police chief Minneapolis had back in the late 1980s who wanted to cops to form relationships with the gangs ?
