Jack Kelly: No shame. The federal response to Katrina was not as portrayed.
Post-Gazette ^ | Sept. 11, 2005. | Jack Kelly

Posted on 09/11/2005 2:16:27 PM PDT by motorola7

"The federal government pretty much met its standard time lines, but the volume of support provided during the 72-96 hour was unprecedented. The federal response here was faster than Hugo, faster than Andrew, faster than Iniki, faster than Francine and Jeanne."

For instance, it took five days for National Guard troops to arrive in strength on the scene in Homestead, Fla. after Hurricane Andrew hit in 2002. But after Katrina, there was a significant National Guard presence in the afflicted region in three.

Journalists who are long on opinions and short on knowledge have no idea what is involved in moving hundreds of tons of relief supplies into an area the size of England in which power lines are down, telecommunications are out, no gasoline is available, bridges are damaged, roads and airports are covered with debris, and apparently have little interest in finding out.

Wow. Jack pretty much stole all the material for this from a BLOG, but I'm glad he did so.

The Federal response was not fast enough for Jesse Jackson or even Al Sharpton

You can bet if it was Clinton in the White House, and the Republicans were criticizing Clinton, they would be saying to "get off of his back, he's doing the best job possible."

THIS WAS A FABULOUS RESPONSE

Somebody ought to tell the republican lawmakers who have broken warp speed to join the democrats in attacking President Bush.

Red Rover, Red Rover.. bring NOLA population on over.. The generosity and warm hearts of Texas may do more for ending suffering and dependence for 10's of thousands of folks who have been suffering under liberal policies in Louisiana. Perhaps there will be a flowering of new red staters, as folks grow to appreciate red state values and red state generosity.

This in comparison to the suffering imposed on them by Blanko and Negin trying to "not" encourage them to stay. Ultimately, we might win a Senator and another Governor because of the shameful behavior of the Dems this last few days.

Even moreso, with some appropriate supervision, perhaps the "Big Easy" moral swamp might just get drained with the sludge and other horrible noxious things that have to be cleaned up in Louisiana.

Excellent. I am sure that the media is well aware that the response was good and normal by the US government. That isn't the point of their reporting, as we all know. They are after Bush and hoping to win back congress for their leftist buddies.

Good good article.

(and as an aside - a few good reporters remain in this world, I sometimes like to point that out when journalists are being slammed all the time. 8-) )

Can't wait till the hearings begin! Hopefully Landrieu and company will be toast!

BTW you're familiar with the legal aspect of real estate. How do we find out who owns the HUD properties that are flooded? Just a hunch that they're also politicians.

I have bookmarked this...because this is reality! Not hyperventilating "blame gaming" mass media reporting.

I think that's the best comment I've read since this mess began. The MSM needs to suffer for their coverage.

On the one hand we have reality and on the other we have perception. Josef Goebells understood this well.

I just heard Biill O'Reilly state emphatically that reality doesn't matter, "it's the perception that counts".

The sad part is that O'Reilly is more right than wrong.

this article appeared today on the Drudge Report and was quoted extensively by Rush Limbaugh. The word is getting out. Kudos to Jack Kelly.

I heard about it on Rush's show - sent it out to everyone I know, and then posted it. Of course it was pulled because it was a "triplicate" thread. LOL (I did a search before posting it and it didn't show up). Anyhow, I agree with you --- Big time kudos to Jack Kelly!! Bttt
