DES MOINES, Iowa The former military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers says the nation's leaders plan on staying in Iraq permanently, but the people who have the proof aren't willing to share it.

Daniel Ellsberg says President Bush aims to keep bases in Iraq, and that the American public was lied to when the country entered the war.

He urged those with access to the sensitive information to share it, saying there are both rewards and potential backlash for whistleblowers. He says they may go to prison, but they may save a wars worth of lives.

The Pentagon Papers, as the documents came to be known, was a seven-thousand-page study of the U-S decision-making in Vietnam that was classified top secret.

The study revealed the knowledge, early on, that the war would not likely be won.

Except to the voices in his otherwise-empty skull, that is.

"He was a traitor then, he's a traitor now."

My sentiments exactly. He should be in prison, or better yet...

What's up with this "permanent bases" meme we've been hearing from the moonbat left recently?

What's wrong with permanent bases in Iraq and Afghanistan? We could then launch a 2 pronged attack on Iran to really sweep the region.

it's funny how during times of war, liberals always use Vietnam as their comparison point while conservatives usually refer to WWII. I guess the reason is because Vietnam is the only war the liberals ever won.

There shouldn't be any doubt that we intend to maintain "permanent bases" in the Middle East -- for the foreseeable future.

So long as radical Islamism (e.g., Syria and Iran) remain a threat, we're obligated to maintain a presence in the area.

Has Ellsberg figured out why we still have bases in Germany and Japan, I wonder...
