The State Department came out with its vision of UNSC reforms saying "potential members must be supremely well qualified, based on factors such as commitment to democracy and human rights, economic size, population, military capacity, financial contributions to the UN, and record on counter-terrorism and non-proliferation".

Looks like only India can meet all the criteria.

Military capacity will doom the lesser states of Germany and Brazil, while pacifism knocks the Japanese off the list.

Unfortunately, Australia is too small, and therefore also out of the running, in spite of its stellar reputation in all other categories.

How about this: The United States picks the members of the Security Council.

That's the only arrangement that will satisfy me.

Guess that eliminates France, Communist China, and most of the others now on the Security Council.

I have a better suggestion: "We quit. You have 48 hours to vacate your offices and 72 to leave our country. Goodbye."

Good point.

France and Germany do not belong on the SC. They are third class states without the requisite military capability.

China has no commitment to democracy, and Russia is just a mess.

No wonder the UN is a sewer. Look who's supposed to be running the show: crooks and incompetents.

Very good point, Captain Cook.
