Schoolgirls riot at tourist spot

HUNDREDS of people watched in horror as a mob of schoolgirls rioted at Darwin's biggest tourist attraction.
Most of the youngsters were in their teens. But several witnesses said a few were as young as six.
About 20 girls threw sticks and stones, and even pulled out a street bollard, as they fought with security guards.
Fighting between rival gangs of boys and girls has been escalating at Mindil Beach markets (pictured). Market manager Tim Robinson said four guards were beaten.
Security and market managers are to hold a crisis meeting with police next week.
The trouble started when a gang beat up a girl about 8.30pm on Thursday.
Security guards were attacked when they went to the girl's aid.
A female guard was injured in the attack.
No one was seriously hurt.
Security boss Ian Spooner said a woman guard was jumped by three girls.
Police raced to the market and broke up the fight.
Mr Spooner said he had warned police about trouble at the markets.
"They promised me help but nothing happened," he said. "The situation is out of control and something needs to be done urgently."
Mr Spooner said tension had been mounting for weeks.
He said at first the friction was only between students from St John's College and children from the Bagot community.
But he said gangs from Casuarina and Palmerston were now getting involved.
Officer in charge of the Darwin Police station Senior Sergeant Danny Bacon said police had increased their presence in response to concerns.
He said the incident would be investigated after a guard was able to name some of the rioters yesterday.
"Police are conducting further inquiries," he said. "This kind of anti-social behaviour warrants further police attention."
They pulled out a bollard??? Damn.
Dear Penthouse Forum, I never thought this would happen in my little town........
Sounds like the New Orleans police.

A: Somebody can get hurt when the girls fight.
For a second, I was having a "Howard Stern Moment."
What popped into my mind was a bunch of gorgeous 18 and 19 year old girls in schoolgirl outfits in a pillow fight... I mean, they did say that this was at a tourist spot, and lets face it, you could sell tickets to something like that...
Excuse me, I need to go wash my mind out.
Mark
...and why, on every other article I have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out where things take place?
Does anything happen outside of East Bumfudge!
I'd hat to see what happens after a soccer match.
That was my thought too.
It's terrible that they pulled out a bollard.
I can't believe they'd so far as to pull out a bollard.
What could they have been thinking when they pulled out a bollard.
Eh......What's a bollard?
heheh ...
" ...One of a series of posts preventing vehicles from entering an area."
That's what the Poms call 'em. ;-)
Darwin....capitol of the the Northern Territory in Australia. It's basically at the top of the map of Australia in the middle on the coast.
I take it that when the article said, in the first line:
HUNDREDS of people watched in horror as a mob of schoolgirls rioted at Darwin's biggest tourist attraction....you thought perhaps they were saying that rioting schoolgirls is the pinnacle of evolution, not describing the city it occurred?
As for the bollards, that's pretty hardcore...depending on who installed them. Maybe they were sunk only an inch or two, for show.
No I was wondering how secure into the ground the bolard must have been for school girls to have pulled it out of the ground.
Either the girls or on steroids or the bollard is cheap.
good thing no one pulled out a spanner
At Darwin's biggest tourist attraction. Imagine that!
in Kansas we just call them posts but thanks for the 411
We'll have to wait for the next edition of "Girls Gone Wild!" to find out.
What would the Grand Master think?
They pulled out a bollard? Are you series??
These young women should be severely punished...spanked...hard....on their fine
lush........
Excuse me. I have to go now.
