In a major show of force, British soldiers used tanks to break down the walls of the central jail in this southern city late Monday and freed two Britons, allegedly undercover commandos, who had been arrested on charges of shooting two Iraqi policemen.
About 150 Iraqi prisoners also fled as British commandos stormed inside and rescued their comrades, said Aquil Jabbar, an Iraqi television cameraman who lives across the street from the jail. Earlier Monday, demonstrators hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at British tanks, and at least four people were killed.

Good news that the troops have been freed, but bad news for relations between the army and the local authorities I fear. Especially if the bit about 150 criminals escaping is true.

Im a bit confused here...were they being held legally? Or by a rouge warden or something like that...arent we trying to let them have their own country? not go barging into their jails (I mean i dont think they should have been in Jail but this seems a bit too gung ho)

strange story. Also bad news about the 150 escaped prisioners. I have to wonder if we now have 150 terrorists running loose.
