(CBS) STATEN ISLAND Christina Kenny is a bright, articulate and, until last Thursday, an open and friendly 13 year old girl. Until last Thursday.
That's when a group of four teenage girls and, she says, a boy, jumped on her and beat her as she was walking home from her school. They beat and kicked her so badly her mother says she now has a detached retina in her left eye, could lose her eyesight.
"A girl just came up to me, and said, ‘Do you know me?’ And as I was saying ‘No,’ she hit me. Then her friends knocked me to the ground. One of them broke a glass bottle over my eye," Christina told CBS 2's Pablo Guzman as they sat in her living room.
Pablo says the right side of her face is still painfully swollen... painful even to look at. He says there are scars and bruises, but what really demanded his attention was that black eyepatch. He didn't really don't want to stare, but on a face so young...
Almost as if to make her guest more comfortable, the girl continues calmly, though in a thin voice, "They ran away when this man came out of his car."
The girls and the boy were all black. Because they allegedly made racial remarks to Christina, who is white, as they beat her, police from the 120th Precinct treated it not only as an assault, but a bias crime.

It is, for the most part. It's the only red borough of NYC. IS 27 is in a pretty decent area too, if I remember correctly.
If someone did this to my kids I would go hunting, and not to wound.
I though NYC was already inhospitable territory for white people!
I don't give a politician's honor what color anybody involved was- and the law shouldn't either.
I want these thugs hunted down and jailed.
I have had to deal with racism myself in my lifetime.
In my younger days, at over six feet tall, blue eyes, muscular and with a crew cut, I looked like an SS recruiting poster.
I have been called "Schultzie", "Heinrich", "Kraut", "Adolph", "Viking", "Thor", and even "Ubermensch" (apparently the person's German was weak, as this came out as a left-handed compliment.)
And of course the Libs fall back on calling me a Nazi whenever they're losing an arguement. I turn around and accuse them making a racist remark because my Grandmother was German.
Yet another manifestation of the meaning of the big words; equality, diversity, tolerance, human dignity, power sharing, room at the table, the big tent, compassion etc. etc.
