Both Blanco and Nagin are Democrats.

The sentence about both being Democrats does not prove him wrong as AP wishes. Nagin donated money to President Bush in 2000, and I believe supported Blanco's opponent.

I read that Nagin used to be a Republican. Don't know if it's true.
