STEROIDS: Sports Officials Back On Capitol Hill
AP, WRAL.COM ^ | 28 SEPTEMBER 2005 | Ronald Blum, Jennifer Talhelm

The sports world needs to take illegal steroid use serious. Sports officials are again on Capitol Hill since sports are not taking the problem seriously. The ill effects of steroid use can be fatal. Unfortunately, athletes are being pressured to use steroids to remain competitive. Senator John McCain has sponsored the "Clean Sports Act," which is companion to a House Bill presented by Tom Davis. Both call for a 2 year suspension for first time offenders of steroid use and a lifetime ban for a second offense. It's time to put these measures into law before more athletes destroy themselves with steroid use.

Yes, steroids, far more important than the illegal invasion of our country, runaway government spending, confiscatory taxation, a perverted government education system, and a SCOTUS that breaks constitutional law.....

Yes, far more important. Has Washington really lost its way??

Maybe these jackasses need to focus on illegal aliens in every town and field in America instead of focusing on illegal substances in a couple thousand professional athletes....

The sad thing is, there are probably far more people concerned about doping in Baseball than other problems.

Say what? Terrorism can be deadly! Illegal immigration can be deadly! OH YES- steroid use can also be deadly. Thus, that's a problem that we need to address.

Illegal steroid use is also a serious issue. Steroid use can be fatal.

Incorrect! Steroid use is rampant! It's far more than a couple thousand athelets as you indicate. Steroid use is all through college sports, body building, and now among high school athletes.

Yes it is a serious issue. When pro athelets use steroids to enhance their performance, athletes coming up through the ranks are encouraged to use them as well to remain competitive. In addition, young athletes admire the pros and thus use steroids to be "cool." Steroid users make poor role models.

The tragic end result is that steroid use can be fatal!

I admire Senator John McCain and his "Clean Sports Act" and his fight on steroids.

Thank you,
Scott

In the world of problems, steroid use is a pimple on the ass of the body politic. I live in an area where meth use is more prevalent in high schools than steroid use. You can focus on the little stuff. As for me, there are far more serious and widespread problems facing our young people.

For every life destroyed by abuse of steroids, I'll show you a thousand destroyed by meth....

More professional, college, and high school athletes abuse alcohol than abuse steroids. For the US CONGRESS to focus on this one issue is an enormous waste of money and time that could be devoted to more pressing issues.

The only reason these jackasses are focusing on steroid use in sports is that it's an easy target. It's a helluva lot easier to "clean-up" baseball than it is to clean-up the mess they've made with illegal immigration, abortion, and every other real issue in America.

Very tasty when served in a nice mushroom hollandaise sauce. Kinda chewy, though...

Yes, binge drinking in colleges and the meth epidemic are problems we need to address. Also, steroid use can be fatal. Thus, it nees to be addressed on Capitol Hill.
