Dems Are Dead Men Walking

Written by Evan Sayet

Sunday, October 02, 2005

Howard Fineman has an editorial in the current issue of Newsweek entitled "Demoralized Dems." While Fineman is to be praised for recognizing the reality that the Democrats know themselves to be in big trouble (after all, these are the same folks who brought you as "news" the impossibility of a square peg--the Koran--being flushed down a tiny round hole) he undermines his points by tippy-toeing around the realities.

What follows is my letter to Fineman.

Howard:

The Democrats are demoralized because they recognize the party is in a death spiral.  The old tricks and tricksters that had kept them in power for decades are all falling apart around them.

The thugocracy of the unions, which, for decades, had pilfered its members' dues and piped it directly to the Democratic National Committee, is in tatters.  The Old Media had been a monopolistic voice for the far-leftists is now just that, the Old Media. They have been attempting to spin everything from Cindy Sheehan as a "peace Mom" rather than an anti-American lunatic being played by the communists and Democrats for political gain, to attempts to sell Abu Gharaib as the new "holocaust" rather than the pranks of a couple of night guards already being investigated by the Bush administration.  These ruses have utterly failed with the people.  So desperate are the Dems for an "issue" that they actually tried to attack the president because his doctor said he was in good shape!

The Democrats are demoralized because they recognize that the American people reject their basic philosophy of confiscation of income and its redistribution by leftists.  And the public rejects more and more government regulations such as warning labels on coffee that it might be hot and the ceding of our sovereignty to foreign bodies like the United Nations and France.  Americans don't want to have to pass "global tests" when the proctors are the Sudan, Germany, and Syria.

The Democrats recognize that they cannot speak honestly of their policies (does ANYONE know what the Dems plan to do to improve our schools, fight Islamic fascism abroad, or protect our citizens here at home?) for they would receive only the votes of International ANSWER members and perhaps Michael Moore.  Each time they try to fudge it ("I voted FOR the 87 billion dollars before I voted AGAINST it"), they just come off as the tricky tricksters that they are.

With nothing positive to sell about themselves or their agendas, the Democrats can resort only to name-calling.  Their campaign slogan might just as well be "sure we'll destroy your schools, your country, and likely hand the world over to the likes of Saddam Hussein and Yasser Arafat but the other guy (fill in the name, Bush, Cheney, Giuliani, Reagan, the troops at Gitmo, the victims of 9/11) is HITLER!!!"

The problem, of course, is not only does no thinking person believe the good and decent family man and Christian George Bush (much less the victims of 9/11) are all "little Eichmanns" but the leftists' desperation sees them forced to get more and more shrill in their attacks, making them only that much more laughable.

Meanwhile, while everyone who disagrees with a Democrat is "Hitler," a "Nazi," or "a little Eichmann," these attacks are coming from the likes of Al Sharpton who helped fake the rape of a child, Ted Kennedy who drove off a bridge drunk and left his "female companion" to die a slow miserable death, and a collection of other liars, plagiarists, kooks, and communists--be they Howard "Yeee-ha" Dean, Joe Biden, Robert "KKK" Byrd, or the money-men like George Soros.

Finally, the failed policies of leftism are coming home to roost. No longer are leftist policies like "ebonics" and "multiculturalism" just theories that the "brilliant intellectuals" can sell to the folks so stupid as to actually love America and believe in G-d.  After forty years of "multicultuarlism" and "ebonics" and "self-esteem therapy" even idiots like me--too stupid to have inherited a brownstone or a "compound" from their parents--know that the policies of the left are disastrous.

So, yes, sir, the Dems are demoralized.  And rightly so.  They have nothing to offer, their attacks are becoming more and more shrill, their policies are not just wrong in theory but disastrous in fact, and the corrupt institutions that they had long counted on to keep them afloat--personified by the Dan Rathers and the Jimmy Hoffas--are either sulking in disgraced retirement or somewhere around the fifty yardline of Giant Stadium.

The Democrats are demoralized because they are done.  To put it in the words of yet another leftist propaganda machine mired in a life-threatening slump, the Dems are "Dead Men Walking."

I would hope Republicans don't rest on their laurels.
Kerry, the senator with the most leftist voting record in the senate and no well articulated or defined alternative plans to speak of, got within 3 points of winning. Bush's popularity numbers should give anyone pause. Sadly, the prospects of Democrats winning the next presidency and making significant inroads in congress are actually quite good. The worst thing we could is underestimate the challenge ahead.

That's an interesting statement, what brings you to that conclusion?

While I agree that Republicans should never rest on their laurels, isn't it a bit premature to predict future election prospects?

Yes, the Democrats don't know WHAT they are supporting, a big problem for the 06 congressional and Senatorial elections.

But, we Republicans don't know WHO we are supporting, a big problem for the 08 Presidential election.

In our world of TV charisma, WHO trumps WHAT at lot of the time. We've got to get our act together also, and groom a candidate.

The worst thing we could is underestimate the challenge ahead.

Taking the other guy seriously in public is usually a good idea for tactical reasons.

In this case, it's a good idea for strategic reasons as well, for this reason.

The left is completely out of its mind at this point. That's the good news. The really good news is that they don't know they've gone 'round the bend.

By acting all concerned, all scared, by the problems of DeLay and Frist and Katrina, and Halliburton and Plame and all the other silly pseudo-scandals the Left/MSM has manufactured, we feed their egos. They think they're getting to us. If we make them think they actually are getting to us, they'll draw the conclusion (being the goofs they are) that their tactics are working, and they'll pour it on double! This will further alienate the center-of-mass of voting Americans, for whom the antics and folly of the left/MSM has never been more obvious.

I agree they are "Dead Men Walking". It makes me think of the movie the Green Mile where Paul Edgecomb says "Toot, one more remark like that I'll have Van Hay roll on two for real. And I'll have one less crazy old trustee in the world.". Will the Republicans have the strength to "...roll on two..."?

"Hey Nancy...I always knew I'd turn you on. Just keep that bag over yer face will ya and quit squirming."

"Go ahead pull the switch, Sweetheart."

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have nothing on these jokers. I doubt the party can get off political death row. When was the last time you saw a Democrat smile?

Mark Sanford? That's a guy I could support.

Forget Senators, they always run and they always lose.Give me a sitting Governor, they have a proven track record of making it to the White House.

Besides, the Palmetto State is my second home!

Sad to say, this is nothing but self-gratification, and there are less polite terms for it.

The hard truth is that the Rats are well positioned to win the next presidential election, and to make gains in 2006.

They badly deserve to lose, but the GOP is blowing it. They need to shape up, a lot and soon.

The dems only have to recognize that there is a serious Islamist threat and be strong on fiscal issues to give the GOP fits in 2008. Fortunately leaders like Mad Howie, Teddy K., Joe Biden, Chuckie Schumer, et al will keep them focused on cut and run in Iraq and terrorism being a nuisance. Their other crutch, scandals and smears are turning more people away than attracting them.

President Bush seems mushy. He allows the opposition to frame the discussions on every topic. He's been put on the defensive on every topic. He needs to get energized and engaged.

Also, the administration needs some real communicators to push back against the adversarial media on every issue.

Newsweak is little more then a democrat cheerleader worse then the n.y. times or wash. post.
Fineman is dirt and no sane individual should give either credence.

So in other words, the Democrats need only to abandon everything they believe in and become Republicans?

At this point in time the Republican Party is as or more liberal than the Democratic Party (free drugs anyone?). I voted for the Constitution Party last election, and unless the Republicans can come up with a halve way conservative candidate for the next election, the same thing happens.

There are a lot of other conservatives that will come to the same decision. If the Republican Party loses, it will be caused by their liberal, as bad as Clinton policies
