another goodie from the search:
Bob Blumer: Beer can chicken is a cooking method developed by some old southerners on the barbeque circuit. Basically, you take a can of beer, drink half of it, and stuff the can of beer up the cavity of a four pound chicken. Place chicken (that is sitting on the beer can with its two legs acting as parts two and three of a tripod) over indirect heat on a grill. Cover and cook for approximately an hour and a quarter.
What makes beer can chicken so special is that the beer steams inside the bird, keeping the meat very moist, while the can itself acts like an upright chicken roaster, delivering delicious, crispy skin.

People gross me out with their dishes. I always look and would rather use paper plates at most homes.Wow! Can you point me to the news stories about the millions of sick people who didn't wash their dishes as well as you?

It is necessary and builds immune systems to be exposed to everyday germs for the most part. We need to keep immune systems strong.
Personally ... there are a multitude of things that turn me off completely. For years when eating out I ordered grilled cheese, fried shrimp, or baked potato, only.
If we could see how the salads are washed, the sinks where they dump the floor mopping water and then do the salads, etc. We would not eat out at all. Price does not mean superior cleanliness. The people that work in the kitchens of restaurants are the poorest of people and have the least sanitary way of living ... not always but often, usually, usually, usually.
People homes where they let the pets eat from their dishes, etc. are not a place I want to eat. Bottled drinks for me there.
My own system is to put a tablespoon of purifying bleach in the dishwater. It is how we purify our drinking water.
Many older dishwashers do not heat the washing and rinse cycles to germ killing levels. Laundry is the same way. E-coli get in the machines and all through the laundry. Warm water washes and low temp. dryers do not kill the e-coli or cold germs, etc.. I always wash kitchen towels, sheets, white socks, (sturdy fabrics, etc.) in hot water with bleach to kill the germs.
We have become careless about the danger of e-coli and kitchen germs. Our addiction to eating out is the worst yet for exposure to a host of dangers exposures.

We have become careless about the danger of e-coli and kitchen germs. Our addiction to eating out is the worst yet for exposure to a host of dangers exposures. While a agree that one should use caution I still note a dearth of stories about outbreaks of E-coli, botulism, etc. that would warrant the expressions of disgust I have read here.
Perhaps "neverdem" could help us out?????

The only time I used a dishwashing machine was when I worked in a hotel's kitchen. My wife, who wasn't born in the U.S., declined to use the dishwashing machine in two different apartments so far.

Hoo hoo, then you would be fine eating at my house -- I scrub the dishes with soap to get the food off of them, rinse with hot water, and *then* put them in the dishwasher to finish them off. I guess I picked this up from my immigrant mom who also thought dishwashers couldn't clean as well as hands.
Only more recently that I've been married to an nth generation American have I started only rinsing the dishes a little before putting them in the dishwasher.
But the garbage disposal (which we never had in our house growing up) still scares me...
