Don't hurry over Saddam. The whole Arab world needs to watch this trial

WHAT IS the latest?” Iraqis ask as they come together for tea and sympathy in these times of hope and uncertainty. And there is always someone who answers by reporting the discovery of a new mass grave where the victims of Saddam Hussein were buried.

According to the latest estimates, the remains of more than 200,000 people, the fruit of the 35-year-long rule of his Arab Socialist Baath Party, have been found in this ever expanding archipelago of death.

And yet, as the fallen dictator’s trial opens today, he faces only one charge: the massacre of 143 men, women and children in the village of Dujail in 1982. With him in the dock will be his half-brother Barzan al-Takriti, who headed his regime’s secret services, and Taha al-Jizrawi, who commanded the party’s so-called Popular Corps, an army of cut-throats............

I hope the atrocities footage that FNC aired a few days ago will be shown repeatedly by all the Media so 'everyone' can see how important it was to remove this heinous madman. But like I said, I'm hoping..

It is most important for the American anti-Iraq war movement within America to see this trial.

Our fifth column within is the jihad's last hope; they must see that they were wrong to allow their hatred of Bush to trump this monumental blow to tyranny. It would be appropriate for them to have endure a never ending parade of testimony of chopped off hands, raped and shredded relatives, and mass murder, and it would have strategic value going forward.

He should be tried on all counts, including the Iran-Iraq war with a total of 1.5 mln killed, invasion of Kuwait with the pillaging, rapes and murders of the Kuwatis, gassing of the Kurds and using chemical weapons against the Iranians, massacring 300,000 Iraqi civilians, destroying the habitat and livelihood of the Marshland Arabs in the South, skimming the Oil-for-Food money, bribing the UN and foreign officials, supporting international and Palestinian terrorism, rapes, murders and tortures of political opponents that happened under his rule, developing and using weapons of mass destruction , and so on and so forth. Trying him just on one count would be like trying the Nazi war criminal just for destroying one village or murdering a hundred people.

And the coverage of the trial should be as detailed as possible with all the gruesome details made public knowledge, pretty much along the lines of the Nuremberg trial. Otherwise, the lefties will claim it's all Bush and Zionist propaganda.

They are starting with the easiest one to get a conviction. The one that had the most evidence of Saddam's personal involvement. The outright killing of the 148 was authorized in Saddam's own hand. They have living witnesses that will testify that only 10 men took part of the attempted assassination, yet 148 men (some as young as 11 years old) were killed on Saddam's orders. There are living witnesses of what happened to the rest of the villagers who were imprisioned and tortured and raped for years. There are witnesses who will testify that the gardens and groves of the village were wiped out in a single day and the land turned over to Saddams friends and relatives. There is a paper trail a mile wide and miles long all implicating Saddam including his rewarding those who took part in the massacre.

He will be found guilty, and then the other trials will begin. One by one each crime will be tried in public and each trial will cement in the minds of all his guilt. Then he and the others will be executed in a dispassionate manner in public.

As I understood it, this is just the opening salvo, the charges brought against him today. This is their slam-dunk case. It has saddams signature on the order.

There will be a reckoning on the other crimes as well, just not in this first trial.

This trial presents the dual spectre of defeat, not only for the jihad, but for liberalism within the US.

The war has been prolonged by liberal opposition to fighting back. Their opposition has been based on the lie that somehow it not a moral war, somehow the despot, left in place, would not have been dangerous to us. The trial will put all who purveyed these lies, the American media, the Cindy Sheehans, the Democratic Party, the Michael Moores, the John Kerrys and Al Gores, the Clintons and the knee-jerk anti-Americans in our streets....ON TRIAL.

Since the left simply couldn't buy the logic of the true defensive nature of this war, they will have to absorb the emotional case embodied in this trial.

This trial will be a significant emotional event for the masses, most of whom will feel, if not embarrassment, a profoud sense of being duped; not all of them, certainly, but enough to weaken the resove of those opposed to this war of liberation.
