PORTLAND, Maine — New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton came to New England yesterday to raise money for two governors and for herself at events in Maine and Massachusetts while avoiding setting foot in New Hampshire, the state with the first presidential primary.

During a fundraising luncheon for Gov. John Baldacci at a downtown hotel, Clinton attacked President Bush for adopting tax cuts while running up the deficit, for failing to create jobs and for cutting social programs. She also blamed the “right wing” for a lack of bipartisanship and for bringing down the Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers.

Clinton did not address the indictment of the vice president’s chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby Jr., on charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements. The indictments were announced about 20 minutes before she spoke.

Before the luncheon, she attended a closed-door fundraising event at the Cumberland Club for the Maine Democratic Party where 100 people paid between $1,000 and $5,000 each. The hotel luncheon afterward pulled in $100,000 for Baldacci.

Baldacci is unopposed for the Democratic nomination; several Republicans are vying for the chance to try to unseat him next year.

Clinton, who also is up for re-election next year, had nearly $14 million in the bank for her 2006 re-election campaign as of Sept. 30, the last reporting period. She also has found time to raise money on behalf of Democratic governors and Senate candidates.

After finishing up in Portland, Clinton flew to Boston for an event at the Harvard Club, where she was to raise money for New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch.

The way it is written she is trying to avoid making it look like she is running for president in the next election. I, for one, am glad we didn't have to deal with her and her leftie friends.

... and I was so looking forward to NoBut's (?) response.

Southern NH has become a suburb of Boston and is not something I enjoy. That being said, if she campaigns in Boston, she might as well be campaigning here.

There is no reason for her to waste time showing up in NH. The brain-dead zombies that will vote for her have already sent her all the money they can gather by turning in their soda bottles in mASSachusetts (we don't have bottle deposits in NH).

Just read that in the paper. Notice how our esteemed gubberner ran off to Boston to be with her to raise money for his own reelection here in NH? Maybe he should stay there.
There is one good thing I can say about our Dimlycratic gubberner: at least he ain't John Baldacci. You folks in Maine have my sympathy with that turkey.

These women do not know how to dress like women. Can't they do "pretty" once in a while?

You wait,my friend.Very soon, you'll have bottle deposits, state funded abortions, seat belt laws,an income tax and a sales tax.

Those are the unfortunate consequences of being surrounded by three of the filthiest states in the nation.

And when the sales tax comes, watch two-thirds of your shopping malls (and retail jobs) vanish overnight.

Whether Hillary has the White House repainted pink or lavender will be an important clue to her priorities.

I don't know what county or town you live in but Rockingham county, save for a couple of towns, has voted conservative candidates in at a rate among the most conservative counties in the nation.

The south western counties and towns however (where many NY, NY transplants live) do vote very liberally.

The problem we have in NH and on the southern tier is MoveOn.Org handing out affidavits on voting day to bus loads of Massachusetts residents claiming domicile for the day in order to vote. If we are serious about keeping NH safe from the ravages of liberalism then our voting laws must prohibit same day registration and require formal verification of residence by the contact of the prior voter registrar with respect to a voters residency status (as was done before Ralph Nader and motor voter registration laws).

In my town, MoveOn had a ten set up and scores of Massachusetts cars were in the parking lot, presumably to vote. With all of that, we still voted for GWB but as you know, the state went blue. I can say that without moveon, our state would have stayed red.

Based on your reply, and I hear the same things from MA residents often, you really sound jealous, but I suspect you are but deep inside think that NH residents are hicks, aren't as smart as MA residents, aren't as cultured, are poor, and don't enjoy the same amenities as our excessively taxed neighbors to the south. As soon as MA people move into our town they go to town meeting, (many wonder why we don't have a government that operates without resident's participation) and demand curbside trash pickup, for example.

A general sale tax is clearly not going to happen, so you are still going to have to drive to Salem or Nashua to escape the stupidity of Massachusetts whenever you want to spend your overtaxed income.

Nope, not true. What I was suggesting was that it would be the scumbag refugees from your three neighboring states that would be responsible for what I said.My understanding is that NH is one of the fastest growing states in the country. Most of that growth,I'll bet,is from MA,ME and VT.So don't count on being sales tax free for much longer.

Need proof? Two democRAT governors in the last three. DemocRAT nominee carries NH in 2004...need I go on?

I'm just tellin' it to ya like it is.If it wasn't for the likelihood of the state going 100% "blue" soon,I'd be there myself. So it has nothing to do with looking down at you.

MoveOn.Org always manage to take the position or actions that most undermines USA security. They are taking their "talking points" straight out of al-Qaeda training manual.
