Shalom Wants EU to Have Authority, Not Just Observer Status 17:53 Nov 01, '05 / 29 Tishrei 5766
(IsraelNN.com) Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom announced that European Union overseers at the Rafiah Crossing in southern Gaza must have authority and not just be deployed in an observer status.
Shalom insisted the EU monitors must have decision-making authority, including the ability to take action at the crossing should the need arise.
Talks between Israel and the EU regarding the border crossing will be headed by Vice Premier Shimon Peres.

I assume this would be good for Israel?
No way!
Another EU PU moment.
The EU hasn't the moral clarity of a neighbor dog in heat.
Keep them them away from Israel. It will bring nothing to grief for Israel and us.
If the pallies know that the EU goons will fight back, they will be antagonized and go thru the same things the israelis do. If they do retaliate the israelis can say to them that the Eu goons are no better or worse than them. Its a good thing.
Spilled milk - Even Israel's own leaders refer to the whole thing as occupation. The delusion has run it's course - eyes on Jerusalem.
Esther, the introduction of security forces other than the IDF will also introduce evaluations by those who direct those security forces. You must realize that the European Union hasn't broken on Israel's side in decades. Now we're expected to believe that during skirmishes, the EU will judge fairly. LOL, not a chance.
This is much more than spilled milk.
Let's say the EU forces become the target of violence, and in time pull out. Guess who will be the force that replaces them. Once a buffer force is installed, it will be there forever. These things don't go away in time.
The introduction of any outside force in the area is a very bad idea for Isreal, and beyond that the west as a whole.
You will rue the day you ever thought this was just spilt-milk.
If our government has signed on to this, it is basicly Israel against the world. We are turning against it. While I don't think Israel will be destroyed, the outlook is very bleak for civilization if this is the course everyone has agreed upon.
