WASHINGTON - Three Democratic congressmen Thursday asked Vice President Dick Cheney to testify on Capitol Hill about the disclosure of a covert CIA officer's identity, saying "there are many wide-ranging questions about your involvement."
The congressmen asked why Cheney's office was gathering information about Valerie Plame, the wife of Bush administration critic Joseph Wilson in 2003; whether the vice president directed his top aide, the now-indicted I. Lewis Libby, to speak to the news media about Plame; and whether Cheney was aware Libby was doing so.
The indictment against Libby says he was told by Cheney on June 12, 2003, that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA's counterproliferation division. That was a month before Plame's identity was disclosed by conservative columnist Robert Novak.
The congressmen also asked Cheney whether he was aware the administration's claims that Iraq was seeking uranium from the African nation of Niger were false, at a time officials including President Bush were using such assertions as justification for going to war.
The Democrats are Maurice Hinchey of New York, Henry Waxman of California and John Conyers of Michigan. Waxman is the ranking Democrat on the House Government Reform Committee. Conyers is the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.
In response, Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said that the vice president would cooperate with the Justice Department as the criminal investigation of Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald moves forward.
Cheney said following Libby's indictment last Friday that it would be inappropriate to comment on the charges or any facts relating to the proceeding.
He should at least meet their demands long enough to say "Go f#*k yourselves."
"Good Morning. My name is Dick Cheney. I have some words for you Thugocrats...F@#$ YOU!"
Any Questions?
LOL - that would be priceless!
They knew he wouldn't.
Yeah. Big time!!!!!!!
Hinchey scores 0% by FAIR on immigration issues. Could have picked any area to show how extreme this turd is.
these people are desperately grasping for straws... anything.. anything
Clear!!! *bbbzzzzaaaap!!!*
Go ahead. I dare you. Knock it off.
I am at a loss for words at the moment, so I'll offer this: BWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAHAHAHAAAAHHAHAHHAAAAAAAAHHAHAHAAAAAAAA!
PS: All three of these morons wouldn't add up to one Baghdad Bob.
The republicans need to get tough and discuss the obvious scam pulled off by Wilson and Plame, and stop treating this troublemaking CIA employee like some sort of sacred cow. She at minimum screwed up royally, and likely tried to undermine our government in a time of war.
Didn't we just have a two year investigation into all of this BS? If anyone should be dragged in front of congress to testify it should be the 'lovely' Wilson/Plame couple.
"Who would you like to know about, because Valerie Plame WAS NOT COVERT."
The congressmen asked why Cheney's office was gathering information about Valerie Plame...
"Because I'm the vice President, I can gather information about your grandmother if I want to."
...the administration's claims that Iraq was seeking uranium from the African nation of Niger were false...
"Good thing the President used that British intel about Iraq attempting to buy uranium from CONGO, not Niger, and he never said Niger in his state of the union address, he said 'AFRICA'."
"Don't you idiots have anything better to do?"
Cheney should tell them that he doesn't talk to peasants.
When you come right down to it, Republican timidity probably played a roll in setting this in motion. If Cheney had called a news conference (or otherwise make his puzzlement known) this would have evaporated with Joe Wilson backing up by a crawdad.
Are any of these bozos paying attention to what is going on now with Iran and Syria or are they just watching their rear-view mirror?
