Daschle argues Bush presidency "is essentially over"

DES MOINES, Iowa - Former Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle said Saturday that President Bush's presidency "is essentially over" but warned that Democrats can't count solely on Republican troubles to win in the next election.

"I don't think it's enough for us to watch the Republicans self-destruct," Daschle said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I think it's important for us to set forth some ideas that give the party an opportunity to define itself and to contrast with Republicans."

Daschle focused on increasing the use of alternative fuels and energy efficiency, and on repairing a health care system that he said is "the biggest single domestic problem facing our country today."

In addition, he said Democrats should confront President Bush on his policies in Iraq, calling for immediate withdrawal of 80,000 troops.

Daschle, who lost his Senate seat in the last election, keynoted the Iowa Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner, the party's biggest annual fundraiser. He said Democrats can make real gains if they can sharpen their contrast with Republicans.

Daschle, Daschle ... it has a familiar ring to it ... who was he, Carter's undersecretary of disinformation or something? Indicted for obstruction of Congress, I think. Found guilty by his constituents, wasn't he?

Tom Daschle's political career is essentiall over too. Bush's presidency career will be over in Jan 2008.

Daschle's campaign will be over some 10-12 months earlier. He will get an invite to a lesser Inaugral ball is the Dem wins.

This coming from someone who was ousted from politics.

Good luck in Iowa!

I'd give it another year or so before I call Bush's Presidency "over". If we have a good 2006 election he might just generate enough gratitude to finish strong.

I find it hard to get the stink of the Clinton administration off the country -- I thought that nightmare ended in 2000.

Lil Tommy's presidential choo choo won't make it around the track.

I hope he keeps preaching how Bush's presidency is essentially over....

Over as in passing the ANWR bill this week....passing an across the board spending cut....nominating Alito...still having "The Brain" Rove, and Cheney still by his side.

And, 5% unemployment, 3.8% gdp growth...and, Bush is STILL in office, Daschle...and you aren't!

I can understand this snake who spews venom, but what I can't understand is the people who actually listened to this losers garbage? Have they lost it that much?

He is around cause he lost his contract with the folks that manufacture HGH..Human Growth Hormone ... that is advertised on Art Bell and other late nite shows....seems he drank barrells of the stuff and didn't grow an inch.

I guess if you are born a short, stupid democrat sh*t, that is all you will ever be.

I guess you could glue feathers all over him, stick a broom handle up his ass and use him to get the dust bunnies from under the bed.
