Chicago plans high school for black males
CHICAGO, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- The Chicago school district plans to open an all-boys high school primarily for black teenagers.
The Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men must be approved by the Board of Education this month, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Mayor Richard Daley plans to open 100 schools in the city in the next five years. Plans for the next two years include a virtual elementary school, a high school operated by the University of Chicago and a high school stressing business entrepreneurship.
Urban Prep would be located inside Englewood High School. Backers say it is aimed at a group that has the lowest graduation rate of any in the city.
"We're going to take our students where they are and help them gain admission to college and succeed once they are there," said Tim King, the founder of Urban Prep. "Clearly there is a high need for figuring out how to serve these kids academically."
The "point" is that the public schools , as currently set, do NOT educate black males. Period.
It has been proven, over and over and over again that single sex schools work best; they take out the distractions and different learning "styles"
Perhaps you didnt notice, but almost 2/3 of all college freshmen are girls, and 82 % of public school teachers are female..Coincidence???
Seems to me you got a "Black" problem. Unless youre suggesting white kids get bussed to black districts, whats wrong with taking the worst high schools in the country and converting them to single sex?

I went with an ex-boss about 8 or 10 years ago as his guest. You simply are watch ants play on the floor from up there. The basketball looks the size of a pea. Go to a baseball game and pay $45 to sit in the upper deck. A Mariners game, 2 tickets, $90 bucks in the nosebleed seats; beer:$7.50 for about 10 oz container = $15.00; 2 hotdogs, $6.00 each = $12.00. If you park within two miles of the stadium, about $25.00; but we would take the ferry over across Puget Sound, so we get to pay $7.50 parking over there, and $8.00 for two return ferry tickets. One night at a baseball game can set you back close to $200. I don't know how many "average" families can afford that more than once or twice in a SEASON. We just don't go. I have better things to spend $200 on that is for sure. I cannot imagine going on a mini-season ticket for about $6,000 a whack.
But, hey, what the heck, we IDOLIZE 19 year old kids who play basketball, snort coke, booze it up, rape women, cuss up a storm on TV, repeat the most said phrase in TV sports: YOU KNOW 25 times in one sentence!!!!!! Go figure why we have the problems we have in this country??? Priorities, that is why. People simply too stupid to know what is important over what is not necessary to live and survive. I guess it will take one of the religion of peacenicks to blow up the super bowl to get people's attention, otherwise, we will just worship 19 year olds who can dunk. /sarcasm still on.

So, you either have a "Black" problem, or you are hopelessly obtuse.
Well they oughta have some very competitive football and basketball teams...

The same idea was proposed in Detroit and I believe was about to start but was stopped by court order after an ACLU lawsuit.
I'm going to go with the seeming minority of posters here. Lots of schools are de facto all black now, and nobody else seems to want into them. All-boys schools are an idea whose time has come ... again. They have worked well for blacks before, notably in Baltimore. Let's give it a shot, and if it's a success then maybe there will be more of them available to more people.
