Let me know the next time you get a traffic ticket for attempted speeding.

What's your point?

Law enforcement authorities probably looked at NBC's track record of staging fraudulent news stories and determined that prosecuting anyone in this case was an absolute losing proposition.

If I were a lawyer I could make a very strong case that ANYTHING presented as evidence that was obtained through a media outlet carries an inherent "reasonable doubt" in a criminal court simply because of the source.

Uhm, that attempting is not the same as doing.  I do believe it was you who said, "I guess they never heard of the concept of "attempt"',  but I suppose it could have been one of your other personalities.

Even with no prosecutions, I don't think this was a very good career move for the Rabbi.

They charge people with attempted kidnapping, murder, extortion, etc all the time.

Attempting a crime is also a crime, albiet not the "same" as succeeding at a crime.

But, there was criminal intent.

Agreed. Criminal conspiracy falls into the same arena.

Well, uh, you see, "attempting" to do a crime is often a crime. Of course they are not the same thing, but both are prosecutable. (e.g. Attempted murder, attempted rape, etc.) Lots of people go to jail for trying to molest kids, even if they don't succeed, for instance. Except when the cops think that you don't break the law even when you intend to molest a kids, and take a substantial step toward molesting a kid.

But I guess ignorance on that issue is more widespread than I thought.

I thought each perv was asked if he KNEW it was ILLEGAL to use the internet to solicit sex from a minor. Each one answered in the affirmative. If it is illegal, why weren't they charged? Is the video inadmissable since it was not captured by law enforcement officials?

These guys gave me the willies SO BADLY!
The two who freaked me the worst of all were the doctor and the rabbi.

Has Dateline committed any crime by setting this up?
Could they be sued by any of these pervs for libel?
