Timothy Rollins - Beneath the SurfaceUnited Nations LogoIn what is but yet another pathetic power grab attempt by the shamelessly corrupt United Nations, they are seeking to control the Internet as part of the agenda to be discussed at the World Summit on the International Society in Tunisia next week. The group currently holding control over operation and efficiency of the Internet is ICANN - the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers - which is in large part controlled by the United States and loosely supervised by the U.S. Commerce Department. Prior to that, Internet activities had been supervised and overseen by Professor Jon Postel in California, it having been the brainchild of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency - also known as DARPA - and until it went public in the 1990's, had been used exclusively by the U.S. military and American universities as a means of expedited communication.

With the United States having invented the Internet, they should have the right to maintain overall control of it, with input only and not decision-making authority from other countries. As a nation with a free market economy and the greatest success story of capitalism in the world's history, it cannot afford to be turned over to a bunch of wannabes or worse, America-haters.

While many of those participating in this week's summit will argue 'which national representatives will discuss strategies to bridge the "digital divide" and harness information and communication technologies', others (including yours truly) believe it's but another attempt by the world's most corrupt organization to seize control of yet another area that was invented and improved by the United States and send it right down the crapper as well.

Consider this: I work with a friend whose occupation requires him to travel to Communist China. He calls it China out of courtesy to his employer and because he is relatively apolitical; I (and many others) know the Communist Chinese for what they are, always have been and forever will be in the foreseeable future; Communists who seek to control what their people can see, watch and do. This is a repressive, totalitarian government that has gone completely out of its way to ensure that maximum impediments and roadblocks are set in place to prevent the flow of information to its people - other than the government spoon-fed party line crap - and most of them just KNOW that their has to be something better than their little corner of hell to suffer in.

Another factor to consider is this: With the UN having once booted the United States off the UN Human Rights Commission a couple of years ago and replacing it with perhaps the world's worst human rights violator - Sudan - you just know that if the bloated bureaucracy and ineptitude that is the UN controls the Internet, they'll go about shutting down any and every web site that even slightly disagrees with their own self-serving agenda. Kofi Annan - the Secretary General of the UN - says it's not a power grab; if that's truly the case, then why would he have been so quick to mention it?

According to the FOX NEWS article covering this issue, the European Union has "blasted ICANN, withdrawn its support from the domain-registration system and called for giving other countries control of it." Continuing, it says: "At the WSIS summit next week, countries such as Brazil, China, Cuba, and Iran are expected to call for the creation of an international body to govern the Internet. Nations such as Libya and Rwanda are among others supporting more U.N. participation in ICANN."

Isn't that just ducky? Let's look at these countries for a moment:

Contrary to the entitlement mentality that pervades these third-world hellholes, if we as a people - the Americans - invented the Internet and have managed it so well, than there is clearly no need to change it. Had the Brits or the Canadians invented it, then this would be one of the crown jewels in their national treasury. While they and other countries have made significant contributions to our culture, the Internet is ours - America's - and it should continue to be managed by the same folks who have done such a fine job to this point, despite what the UN or other wannabes may think.

If they are so intent on having control over the Internet, they can invent their own version of the mouse trap and make it better than the current Internet. Competition is good for the world economy, and everybody comes out winners… except the fat, lazy, scum-sucking third-world wannabes that want to forever suck off America's teat.

As far as I'm concerned, to hell with them. We didn't need them before, and we certainly don't need them now. ***

I won't be surprised when we hand it over to them. After all, we are about to give them the oceans so they can put our navy out of business, so why would we bulk at turning over the internet?
