"If any City in this country gets nuked, I hope it's Washington."

And a very good day to you, too, Sir.

From someone -- not an idiot, and not someone who caused this problem -- who works in DC and who lives just across the Potomac River in Arlington, VA.

I sure hope NO city in America ever gets nuked, and I hope nothing bad (and certainly no nukes) ever happen to Montana.

I hope that if any Russian ICBMs accidentally launch at the United States, it's the ones targeted on Malmstrom AFB.

I too hope NO city gets hit. You misunderstood my meaning.

I'm sorry you have to work in DC however. I'd rather you worked someplace a bit out west, especially since it's a foregone conclusion that DC is on the AQ target list.

and no, I certainly do NOT think you're an idiot, nor do I think most of the others in DC are.

1. Probably. With Congress, nothing is certain.
2. Realistically, no border can be full sealed. The NK-SK border is some of the most heavily patrolled and mined land in the history of the species, yet a few still manage to get across. Practically there are lots of alternatives. Triple fencing, armed UAV patrols, a wide variety of sensor arrays, employment for welfare recipients, etc. I might favor a 100 km wide dangerous game preserve stretching from San Diego to Brownsville, gaps only at legal crossing points. Running a gauntlet of lions and tigers and bears would give even the most determined terrorist pause.
3. I would say temporary, only for the duration of the WOT.

Not hard, but again, that really does nothing. Hell, we do that stuff to ourselves, I.E. Watts Riots, etc. What I am talking about is, a simultaneous hit. I.E. car bomb going off in downtown NY during morning or evening rush hour, just before Christmas, during heaving shopping time; suicide attack in something like the Mall of America, during Christmas heavy shopping time, a Saturday afternoon or something; a truck bomb in a Uhall type out on the Golden Gate Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, etc.; suicide attacks in D.C., Atlanta, Philly, Chicago, LA, SF (I withhold further comment), Seattle (same as SF), Denver, etc.; bombing on major railway sites, bridges, etc.; Several bombers doing their thing at several sporting events at one time. Not the Super Bowl, because security is so heavy. But, say college football games on Saturday. While they have security, they do not have it at the level of the Super Bowl. Not enough big shots there to warrant it. Okay to lose a few thousand "citizens" but not one or two politicians.

This type of action would take lots of planning and coordination and only after each cell had the necessary materials to do it. A bunch of cars going up in flames only makes a 30-second liberal sound bite about racism in LA, Chicago or NY. Not about terrorism. Sadly, in this one man's opinion, until we have another day like September 11th, 2001, no one is going to pay a lick of attention. Until the body bags are filled, the holes filled in, the fires put out, the liberal finger pointing over, will we get serious, AGAIN, for a little while. The question is, can we, will we, survive it?

Some will, a bunch will not. Pray you are one of the ones that does. Because my friend, there are going to be lots of bodies. Any one of us could be among them. Tomorrow is not promised.

I meant: We as a country, as a Dream.

You and I will die, it is inevitable, as death comes to all humans, but our Great Land will endure to the end of history.

We are forgeting something here. War is not fought just in Iraq or Afghanista. Problem is that Clintons politics for 8 years boosted Muslim terrorista and ideologists in Europe spetialy on Bosnia and Kosovo.
Second problem was that Clinton sided Muslims and attacked Christian Serbs.
Result is that In Bosnia, you hawe just enemies, Muslims and Serbs that US are still treating as enemies,. Serbia also, ALbanians, muslims, are enemies of US, building Al-Khaida kamps on kosovo, and in same time, US is allmost stealing kosovo from Serbia.
fact is that there are no true allies of USA in anti-terror war.

It would be the sam as if Roosevelt bombed England in 1941, to protect Germany, and than Germany attacked USA, with USA in conflict with England and Germany aswell

BTW, just HOW logistically and legislatively would closing the borders be done?

There are two ways to cross the border. The first is thru a legal entry point and the second is in between those points. The laws already exist making it illegal to come into the country anywhere other than an authorized entry point, so no legislation is needed to shut that down. What is needed is a barrier, surveillance using a combo of eyeballs & electronics, and reaction elements. That costs money, but if the $ were appropriated, border crossings at places other than legal entry points could be shut down cold. And it doesn't take a lot of specialized personnel or training to do so.

At the legal entry points, the problem is to weed out people with false IDs or on watch-lists or who are smuggling something in. And you also want to facilitate legal traffic to keep the economy going. That takes more sophisticated operations with lots of well trained agents with dogs, chemical sniffers and so on. Again, its about $. With enuf $, we can greatly increase the degree of difficulty for smugglers and illegals coming in. It is very doable if we have the will.

Lie.
If you want to stop illegal imigration, you just say:
You cant tenter.
Than you dont need sniff dogs, passport control, just watchtowers.

There you have it. Fortunately for us, the press actually knows very little. And when it comes to the borders, we have NO idea what they are doing because the people doing it can't talk about it. Everyone has a little piece of the puzzle, but very few have the big picture.

Now, ridding ourselves of illegals that are already here is a more difficult, and separate issue.
