THE four-person team of Iraqis who committed last week's co-ordinated hotel bombings crossed the border days earlier with ready-made suicide belts, a Jordanian official has said.
A senior Jordanian security officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that a woman was among the bombers in Wednesday's attacks, which left 57 people dead in three Amman hotels. He said the attacks were ordered by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian-born militant who leads al-Qaeda in Iraq.
The new information matches that of an internet statement posted in Zarqawi's name on Friday, which described the bombers as four Iraqis, including a husband and wife.
The official said the remains of a woman were found at the Radisson SAS hotel, where a blast ripped through a crowded wedding party. The woman was not one of the wedding guests.
The official theorised that the husband and wife came as a couple to blend into the wedding crowd. It was unclear whether the woman also carried a bomb.
The team crossed into Jordan from Iraq last Monday and stayed in a safe house in Amman. The person who rented the house shortly before their arrival remains at large.
They arrived carrying completed explosive belts apparently made from Iraqi military materials. The official described the belts as sophisticated devices capable of being transported on long overland journeys without danger of accidental detonation.
The official described Zarqawi as obsessed with striking back at the Jordanian Government, which imprisoned him for three years for extremist activities before releasing him as part of a general amnesty in 1999.
He holds a grudge against Jordan's head of counter-terrorism, who was one of his interrogators in prison, the official said. Zarqawi has twice tried to kill his former nemesis and failed.

IMO ... I dont care about finding any Iraq connection. If they are a radical muslim extremist fighting their holy jihad, I dont care if they are from Switzerland. Elimenate them all and destroy that culture before we are all sent back to the stone ages.
Well, the other Iraq connection, of course, is the fact that the bombers were Iraqis. Now that Missus Bomber is singing her heart out, it will be interesting to see if other connections to other groups turn up. (Like, who's paying for all this--Saudis, maybe? or someone else?)
What the democrats have GOT to realize is that the war on terror is NOW in Iraq. THey can argue all they want that Bush shouldn't have gone to war, but the fact is...the terrorists know VERY well that they have got to win in the Middle East, particularly Iraq, or they lose.
On that basis alone, the Dems should shut up and get behind the war effort....but then, they don't care about terrorism or whether or not we win...THEY only want to win back power. The Republicans have GOT to get this out on every news show...
I guess she recovered, because I saw here on television this morning confessing to her roll in the bombings.
I thought I read a story today that the woman chickened out and they had her in custody. Whats going on?

Now they were showing the female would-be bomber making confession - does not quite mesh with "remains of a woman [bomber]".
She didn't seem to be missing any body parts--fingernails intact, both arms and legs...I think this is either the press being fed bad info until they could finish their questioning, or just making it up as they went along. I think both scenarios happen from time to time.

I would be surprised if she knew a lot about the whole plot. Seems their MO is to keep everyone in the dark about what's going on and tell each person involved no more than they need to know to get their part of the operation completed. I remember it came out after 9/11 that most of the hijackers had no idea the plan was to fly the planes into the WTC. Talk about a 'good news', 'bad news' scenario. "This is your leader speaking from the flight deck. The good news is that we have taken over the aircraft. The bad news is that I intend to fly it into a building, killing all on board, including you! Surprise!"
Wow, the Mossad re-assembled the b!tch and put her on TV. Seriously, the Iranians are claiming that Israel was behind this. The media has gone into warp-drive about the intelligence prior to the Iraq war. They fail to realize that the "insurgency" is over. "Palestinians" were killed using Pali techniques. Even the most twisted mental logic cannot resolve the incongruence.
It's time the rest of the world sends significant forces to Iraq to help fight this global war!

I read that the woman they captured was the sister of one of Zarkcows main men. She probably knows a LOT!
Wasn't the mrs. bomber the brother of a Zarqawi lieutenant that got wacked in Fallujah?
