Some parents upset over sex booklet in schoolsThursday, November 10, 2005
By R. DAVID HEILEMAN The Sun StarSTRONGSVILLE _ An informational booklet that describes the symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases and contains phone numbers for Planned Parenthood and confidential reproductive health services has raised protests after it was placed in students' lockers throughout the district. City resident Theresa Fleming said her 11-year-old son, a sixth-grader at Kinsner Elementary School, was among those who received a copy of the booklet, Youth Pages, A Guide for Cuyahoga County Teens published by United Way's 211 First Call For Help. She said the booklet, which also provides information on the need for parental consent for abortion and a Web address for the Lesbian/Gay Community Service Center of Greater Cleveland, is inappropriate for 11-year-olds. I believe some sex education needs to be given, but when subjects are discussed or material is given to kids of this nature, a notice should be sent home to the parent and they should be allowed to opt out of the program if they wish, Fleming said. School Superintendent James Gray said he gave an OK for the pocket-sized directories, which were provided to the district by United Way Services in conjunction with the county health department and county commissioners, to be given to students at the high school, middle schools and to sixth graders. Gray said he received two calls from parents who took exception to the booklet's content. I understand that and probably, in retrospect, I should have considered sending a letter along with it as far as an explanation, he said, adding, this is a developing situation. I don't know what we are going to do at this point. Colleen Grady, a city resident and a member of the state school board, said she got calls from four parents concerned about their children getting the directory. Grady, who is also a former city school board member, said she has not personally seen the publication, but they (parents) read me sections over the telephone. She said the state board of education may wish to make a legislative recommendation to the Ohio general assembly, and the board could also consider discussion about adoption of a model policy for the distribution of such materials. Gray said there will be continued discussion, in the district's curriculum and pupil services departments on whether to curtail distribution of materials which are considered to be sensitive, particularly for the younger kids.

Thank goodness only some parents were annoyed! :-)

And the county health dept.
Could you ping me to this sick**** when you see it? I run the Moral Absolutes Ping list and Harry and me both do the Homosexual Agenda.
I'll be apinging this one tomorrow.
"Sensitive" my etc. Sick. They want to turn everyone's children into fresh meat.
She'll figure it out soon. These things aren't meant as "services," they're meant as indoctrinational literature. For libs, the more immorality and perversion, the better.
Ok. :) I just wasn't sure if you were still online or not.
I was rather pizzazed off that President Bush agreed to do a radio commercial for them.
They're the same group removing funding from the Boy Scouts unless the Scouts allow gay counselors.
Them, of course, being the United Way.
I just read the article again, this is Strongsville, a Cleveland suburb. NE Ohio seems to have gone downhill in the five years since I left there.
Ha. These parents actually think they have the right to raise their own children. The wise 9th Circuit Court knows otherwise.
I stopped a long time ago.
Imagine the outrage if copies of the Ten Commandments were slipped into the lockers. And I suspect that more parents would complain about that, than the sex-related information.
Schools pull these stunts because they can.
"I understand that and probably, in retrospect, I should have considered sending a letter along with it as far as an explanation, he said, adding, this is a developing situation."
What a bunch of crap. What's wrong with so many people in the educational fields that they don't even think twice about providing children with inappropiate materials and not even consider the parents wishes? I can't decide which I think is more mind boggling: the fact that they handed this stuff out or the thought that they don't even think to consider the parents wishes. Maybe someone needs to enlighten them that these kids are NOT theirs; they are the PARENTS kids. They are just being paid by the parents school taxes to provide a service to them, that is: educating the children.
WTF is this?

You mean tonight or in general?
Sometimes I decide to get away from FR for a few weeks but you know what happens.
Were I a parent I would be doing everything in my power to get my kid out of public school, if I had to give up just about every social thing in my life and home school them.
