It looks we in Ohio will get one the coldest finishes to the month of November that we have had in many years as the highs for a couple days next week will struggle to get above freezing. In Dayton, we were down to 17 last night, which would be normal for mid-January. Oh well, if it is warm or bitter cold this Winter, we all know that it's because of us evil citizens of a prosperous nation (sarcasm off).

Good thing I'm going back to 70 degree weather on Monday, then. I'm getting ready to leave the house and I'm putting on a winter coat for the first time in years.

"...this is provided by UNITED WAY! Are there any freepers who actually give money to that organization?"

NO! And for many reasons!

"Thank goodness only some parents were annoyed! :-)"

Consider one thing - when these things are distributed in this manner, many parents never see them.

A bunch of parents complained and the teacher "got severely chastised for it". I like small towns.

I homeschool my kids, but not because of any problem I have with our local schools. I've heard nothing but good about them. And the other day I got a newsletter from the elementary school (they always send them to us even though our children don't attend) that mentioned that they were doing something with the kids to honor our veterans. I was thrilled to see that and somewhat pleasantly surprised!

Some school districts are really good to homeschoolers. I always tried to be conscientious about my paperwork and would take it in instead of mailing it. It really helped to build a good rapport with the school. It's good to hear there are other districts like that considering all the bad news we hear.

The United Way - the outfit which wants the Boy Scouts to employ homosexual troop masteres and admit three dollar bill scouts.

I give to the local Boy Scouts through The United Way and I have been doing so ever since some local United Way organizations have dropped the Boy Scouts.

If you are really interested in helping the BSA let me suggest something. United Way skims a percentage off the top of the funds you donate for fundraising and general expenses. These moneys do not go to the BSA. Also, United Way sets a budget and any funds directed towards an organization just free up previously budgeted funds that can now be used to support lambda legal defense or some other pro-homosexuality anti-American organization.

Therefore, if you stop supporting BSA via the United Way and start supporting them directly you will (A) get more funds to BSA and (B) harm an un-American organization. Everybody wins. Please avoid the United Way like the plague that they are.

The district I'm in now is WONDERFUL to us (as opposed to the one I left about ten years ago). Like you, I also take my paperwork in to the school and have gotten very friendly with the staff. Last year when I brought my kids' test scores in, the woman I gave them to said, "I just love seeing the homeschooled kids' test scores; they're always so high!" She always offers me any assisitance I might need and wishes me the best for the upcoming school year. When I leave that place, I feel like I'm walking out of a dream, lol.

The school districts really seem to appreicate homeschoolers who do it right. The secretary in our old district told me about all the non-compliant (to regs) homeschoolers that there were, without naming any names, and what a poor education so many of them were receiving based on their performance when they finally did go to school. It helps if the homeschoolers don't go in with the attitude that they are the enemy. We moved to a new district last year that, as it turns out, has great, small schools and we are now sending our two oldest to high school. But up until last year when we moved in, they had not had any really positive experience with the few homeschoolers that they had. What a sad reflection on homeschooling. I hope it continues to go well for you.

Thanks for the post. I started to give to the local Scouts through United Way several years ago. At that time I sent the local United Way President a letter telling him if they dropped the Boy Scouts I would in a very public way stop my donations through United Way. Were it not for various other local United Way organizations that have dumped the Scouts, I wouldn't have donated to them at all. I wonder if the Scouts have seen an increase in donation from people with my point of view? At any rate, I can tell you that over the years the pressure from employers to fill out a pledge card has dropped off.

I absolutely love it when they pressure me to make a pledge. It allows me to go into my several days long rant about how the corporate sponsorship (and resulting pressure) of the United Way violates my religious freedom and establishes a hostile workplace under the sexual harrassment laws. (Imagine them foisting this discussion of sexual perversion on me against my will and then forcing me to pay for it.)

It annoyed the supervisors so much that they don't even ask anymore (such a pity, It was a really good rant)

When United Way can no longer coerce businesses into pressuring their employees to cough up, it will be a good day.

In tribute to Hillary Clinton:

In the "brave new world" of 632 A. F. (After Ford), universal human happiness has been achieved. (Well, almost.) Control of reproduction, genetic engineering, conditioning--especially via repetitive messages delivered during sleep--and a perfect pleasure drug called "Soma" are the cornerstones of the new society. Reproduction has been removed from the womb and placed on the conveyor belt, where reproductive workers tinker with the embryos to produce various grades of human beings, ranging from the super-intelligent Alpha Pluses down to the dwarfed semi-moron Epsilons.
