THE ashes of Star Trek’s Scotty will not be boldy going into space next month — after his rocket was grounded with engine problems.

A technical glitch hit the Falcon One craft that was intended to take actor James Doohan’s remains to the final frontier on December 6.

Now the launch to bid farewell to Canadian actor Doohan — who played engineer Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott in the hit TV show — has been delayed until February.

Charles Chafer of Space Services Inc said: “They had an engine test they didn’t like, so they will do another month of testing.”

He said technicians needed time to sort out engine problems before the California launch.

The delay is a huge disappointment for hundreds of fans who hoped to be at the launch to pay tribute to Doohan.

His character regularly defied the odds to keep the Enterprise flying - even after yelling his catchphrase: “The engines cannae’ take it captain!”

Doohan died in July aged 85. He had asked that his ashes be launched into outer space following his death.

Texas-based Space Services has already rocketed the remains of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry into the heavens.

Even Scotty can't be a miracle worker on this snafu.

Squeeze his ashes into a "lithium crystal." That will get the engines going again.

Hey---any good engineer understands that SNAFUs are normal in an R&D situation.
