College Guide Helps Steer Values-Oriented Students Toward Best U's (No to Brown,Wesleyan & Colgate)
Agape Press ^ | 11-17-05 | Jim Brown

Posted on 11/17/2005 10:12:55 AM PST by truthandlife

The editor of a new college guide is warning parents against sending their children to what he calls some of the scariest university campuses in America -- schools across the country that are the most secular or the most hostile to Christian values.

John Zmirak is the editor of Choosing the Right College: The Whole Truth About America's Top Schools (Intercollegiate Studies Institute, 2005). And near the top of his list of schools not to attend is Brown University, with its renowned drug culture. Another institution to avoid, he says, is Colgate University in New York, where the university president, a former women's studies professor, is now seizing all the fraternity houses and turning them into minority housing. Students belonging to any fraternity that resists are under threat of expulsion.

But one school stands out among the rest, Zmirak asserts. "I'd be very careful sending anyone to Wesleyan University in Connecticut," he says, "because they're getting rid of single-sex dorm rooms. You won't even be able to guarantee that your daughter is living with another woman."

The reason for this, Zmirak contends, is that Wesleyan's "politically correct ideology has gone so far that they say, 'Well, it's not for the school to say who's a man or a woman; each student has to decide that for him or herself.'" Incredible as it sounds, he adds, "It's impossible to parody that."

The editor of Choosing the Right College also recommends that parents not send their children to Oberlin College in Ohio, where the head of the campus pro-life group is an open homosexual, but is considered the most Right-wing student at the school.

On the other hand, Zmirak's college guide also lists some of the top academically excellent schools that are geared toward evangelical students. One school he recommends highly is a Christian college located near Chicago.

"In terms of evangelical schools, I would say Wheaton in Illinois is both academically excellent and religiously solid in a sophisticated way," the editor says. "Your students will come out sophisticated defenders of the evangelical faith they took in with them."

Zmirak mentions other schools that he feels do a great job of passing on American traditions grounded in biblical truth. These include Hillsdale College in Michigan and Grove City College in Pennsylvania.

And they say there isn't a liberal bias in college these days...

Another good college would be North Greenville College in Tigerville, SC. My friend goes up there and she says that the opposite sex isn't even allowed past a certain point on the side walk of the opposing sex's dormitory, and they frown on drinking and smoking. Good Christian values! I would recommend it to any parent wanting a good education for their child.

Well, I do remember that my head nearly exploded in the mid-90s when visiting Georgetown (Jesuit!), seeing the scheduling of the Vagina Monologues being discussed.
Not whether, but when...

who's a man or a woman; each student has to decide that for him or herself

And doing my part to edumicate the skulls full of mush in Amurica, I offer L,TOWM's "Anatomy 101 prep", which can be done at home.

The next time you are showering, look down. If you see an appendage between your legs (and you are alone!), your DNA has "decided" that you are a man. If you nothing but short hairs, than you are a woman.

Amazing how the "progressives" of world can't figure out the simplest things for themselves, yet us conservatives are supposed to be the ignorant and uninformed group in the body politic.

Brown has a drug culture? No doubt.

But look at Wesleyan again for college kids buying drugs, including heroin, right in town. There was an article in the Hartford Courant about a month ago that touched on that topic.

I think any school within comfortable driving distance of Hartford, however respectable acdemically, is going to have a thriving drug culture.

No different at Boston College. Holy Cross in Worcester as well, I'd imagine.

Hmm... I used to have a coworker with Brown U. PhD - and he was one of the two best professionals in my field I've ever seen working over my 30 years career. So I suspect the "scary" Brown did not frighten him too much, and trained him rather well. But then, it probably depends on what one wants from a college. If one could get an acceptance and arrange the monetaries, I would strongly recommend MIT or Caltech over Wheaton, Hillsdale or Grove City.

These fine institutions are also two schools that refuse to accept federal bribes...I mean funds...and are, therefore, able to resist federal efforts to turn them into politically correct houses of socialist indoctrination

'Well, it's not for the school to say who's a man or a woman; each student has to decide that for him or herself.'

Wow. I guess it's true. You really can't make this stuff up. I honestly wonder what sort of trauma or years of convoluted thinking are required to come up with such a statement and actually believe it. I mean, does a person have experience something akin to Vietnam POW torture to get their mind so warped? I don't think people with full blown schizophrenia believe that. Wow again.

That is the least important reason not to send your kid to Wesleyan. It is the most radical, drug-infested hell hole in the country, and it shares little in common with reality.

Picked this up a couple of weeks ago. It is invaluable. My only complaint is it is not comprehensive enough, with many schools left out.

oh god, that's lame, really really lame.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to go to Brown where there's a drug culture, or to Colgate (I have a friend who goes there and let me tell you that place is LIBERAL), but I'd also avoid North Greenville with the same predisposed aversion. Better to find a school that's balanced.
