Republicans ought to be using this as a talking point in tonight's debate....Democrats want to adopt "Born to Run..."
That's stupid.
I don't care what you think of the guys politics, he's a great musician, and he should be honored for his great musicianship. We should be big enough not to make this a partisan issue.
Geez, why not do the same for Bjork??? |
Van Zandt is a dolt. Chomsky has an amazing mind? He starts with a faulty premise, dazzles thge listener with some big words and dimestore rhetoric, and finishes off with some linguistic gymnastics. The end product? "Wow what a genius..." Doesn't matter that the entire argument is baseless, factless, and just plain wrong, he makes it sound so good.
My favorite Nugent line ever is from the Chattanooga show while opening for Kiss: "By the way, 51 years clean and sober!"
I tend to be a fan of what is outside the majority when it comes to pop culture. Most of my friends were Van Halen fans growing up so therefore I had to be different.
I never much cared for Cindy Crawford or Demi Moore and always liked Pepsi over Coke, too.
Ted? Being sarcastic I hope. A friend, who's band opened a Nugent show here in Pittsburgh a few years ago, said Ted toured with a dresser with the drawers full of Jack Daniel's.
Hey, Senate Reps did something right!
I never understood his popularity at any point in time. I didn't care for his music. The people at one of my clients (Asbury Park Press) spoke of him like he was a god 20 years ago. I laughed at them. They took me to meet him. I laughed at him. I don't cringe when I hear his music, I just don't like it.
Springsteen's sold more than double that, even with Nugent having a head start. "Born in the U.S.A." alone sold more than 15 million and is in the all-time Top 20 in sales. His tours consistently sell out multiple nights at the biggest venues. In 2003 he was the biggest draw there was, selling 1.6 million tickets for 47 shows, including a 13 night sold-out stand at Shea Stadium.
Say what you want about his politics, but Nugent isn't in the same league with Springsteen when it comes to success in their business.
Who was the first Rock and Roll artist?

Ir was little David, he took a rock and rolled the giant!
BROTHER DAVE
Chomsky? Good Lord. I haven't heard his name in quite a while. I just thought everyone finally figured out he was an idiot.
Bruce is a flipping noodle head now. But you should be more objective and fair here. This is not the DU.
Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. - 1973. An outstanding LP. His first three LPs were quite good. IMO, Born to Run was his last good album. I and my future wife saw him and the E Street Band at the Jai Li Fronton in Orando in 1977 (1500 people, $7.50 per head) and the show was excellent. Downhill from that point on, though.
I love the Nug, was rockin to the Amboy Dukes in HS. But the greatest guitar showman? Nah.
Van Halen? Technically speaking extremely talented. But only in a technical sense. No soul or depth. I heard and saw a number of guitarists that are superior to Eddie. The ability to make you feel in a way that a technician like Eddie can't.
Dwane Allman R.I.P.
Rory Gallagher (could give ya goosebumps) R.I.P.
Clem Clemson (Humble Pie)
Kim Simmonds (Savoy Brown)
Alvin Lee (Ten Years After)
Carlos Santana
Love this! He didn't just campaign for Kerry, he bashed the President from the stages of the world!

While the guy is a very good artist, when he politicizes his talent it's right to question whether he should be given such an honor.
Take that Bruce!! Thumb your nose one to many times and maybe, just maybe you'll get it in return.
Springstein contributed to American culture?????
Well, maybe, but not in a good way. He left his first wife by having an affair with his second wife.
