CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Thousands of supporters of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez marched in Caracas on Saturday to support the leftist leader in his dispute with Mexico's president over U.S. free trade proposals.
State workers, unionists and students, many wearing red T-shirts, waved flags and anti-U.S. placards as they marched through the capital accompanied by trucks blaring revolutionary songs, Venezuelan folk ballads and Mexican mariachi music.
Venezuela and Mexico withdrew their ambassadors on Monday after Chavez called his Mexican counterpart, Vicente Fox, a "lap dog" of U.S. imperialism for his close ties to Washington and told him, "Don't mess with me, mister or you'll get stung."

How many thousand?
How many hundreds of thousands or millions stayed home out of fear of Chavez's thugs, goons and killers?
It is the same cast of characters the world over. People who do not function in the real world of the competitive market place. It could be the US, China, South Korea. In this case it is Venezula.
I watched our local news tonight. They had a story about Chavez supplying oil to low income people in NYC at a discount. Then the newswoman stated, "Chavez is a strong critic of President Bush. He says that American capitalism is the cause for the terrible poverty in the United States." She made him look like Mother Theresa.
I think this group is worse. There is something new and scary going on. These people are bloodthirsty. Their economy is going in the toilet, they've squandered billions from oil and now the price of oil is tumbling. They are looking for someone to declare war on and have decided Mexico is weak enough. Mexico needs to kick their a--.
"terrible poverty"? He should take a look at his own country. Most of those folks would love to live in the conditions America's poor live in.
I wonder what those marchers were threatened with if they didn't march. Maybe that's all they could round up on short notice.
Chavez now owns the oil in Venezuela, he sure can afford thousands of "supporters".
I am not an isolationist, yet I believe Muck Fexico. Nothing new. Which people do you believe squandered the wealth? France may decide to come to the rescue of Mexico, and May 5th would seem an appropriate day.
You are all mixed up. Mexico is fine on oil. Hugo Chavez is the one who's wasted his, spending it all on guns and pork-barrel rentamobs in Che t-shirts. Chavez is the gross one. Now, he wants to make war on Mexico, whose only 'crime' is trading with us. The attack on Mexico is a proxy attack on the U.S. and not only is it a proxy attack, it's a pre-attack. It's really getting sick out there. You will have to swallow your hatred for Mexico for awhile because something a hell of a lot worse than Mexico is attacking it ahead of its attack on us.
Actually, it should be more like Vuck Fenezuela (and Cuck Fhavez, too)
"Thousands of supporters of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez marched in Caracas on Saturday to support the leftist leader"
and it's USA sister city San Francisco, Ca. shouted in unison. Chavez is a POS leftist commie troublemaker.
If one cares to peruse my history, they may find that I have NO hatred for Mexico. Quite to the contrary, I believe that Mexico is entitled to be (and remain) a sovereign nation. I am a Texan and a proud American. If Mexico and Venezuela choose animosity between themselves, this is a shame. America is not to blame for their problems. Mexico takes for granted that America will protect OUR interest. And Vincente Fox has made a mistake. Let him declare military operations against Venezuela, and the criminal Hugo. He must go to the UN and beg please, and grovel for resolutions the same as America was told to do. By Mexico.
A huge blunder was made when he was not killed while he was detained by the military.
Hugo Chavez = Fidel Castro = Premier Wen Jiabao = Communism
Got the picture?
Methinks Pat Robertson was on to something.
Listen: This is not a 'fight between' Mexico and Venezuela. MEXICO WAS ATTACKED BECAUSE OF ITS TRADE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE USA. Its banks are being bombed by communists over free trade. And if you think this is not about YOUR country and YOUR banks are not going to be bombed as well, you have another thing coming. You are no different from the Jordanians who cheered al-qaida when it blew up the WTC but then when its own hotel was bombed, did an about face. Think about it. You are nothing more than a Jordanian in mentality. The attack on Mexico is directed AT US. Putting your head in the sand and saying it's 'between them' in the face of a bonafide predator is a recipe for an attack on us. You'd better be ready to take the blame for ostrichery. We are under attack and the first shots are hitting Mexico.
WOLVERINES!
OK. We are once again at fault for our trade practices. Good luck building your pipeline to China. The Chinese will prop up the peso without occupying your land. Just ask Panama.
Its banks are being bombed by communists over free trade. And if you think this is not about YOUR country and YOUR banks are not going to be bombed as well, you have another thing coming.
I must express my sincere apologies that America has exported Communist bombers to Mexico in an attempt to derail free trade. We are attempting to vote out our Democrats that persecute Mexico in such a harsh fashion, but it will take us a few years. Someone needs to give these bank bombers a few pointers about their American operations, since they have been an abject failure since 1976.
You are no different from the Jordanians who cheered al-qaida when it blew up the WTC but then when its own hotel was bombed, did an about face. Think about it. You are nothing more than a Jordanian in mentality.
I am very sorry that I missed the attacks on Mexico that left thousands dead. I missed out on the celebrations here in America after that event; and yet I feel compelled to offer sincere apologies.
The attack on Mexico is directed AT US. Putting your head in the sand and saying it's 'between them' in the face of a bonafide predator is a recipe for an attack on us. You'd better be ready to take the blame for ostrichery. We are under attack and the first shots are hitting Mexico.
I am not putting my head in the sand. We are actually fortifying our positions and adding heavy weaponry in anticipation of the fall of Mexico. Nothing personal.
