What began as a search for common ground between Congressman Tom Tancredo and Colorado interfaith leaders has disintegrated, with the two sides unable to agree on a joint statement about religion, terrorism and retaliation.
For more than two months, the Colorado Republican and a group of Muslim, Christian and Jewish representatives tried to broker peace after Tancredo suggested it was acceptable to bomb Muslim holy sites in response to terrorist attacks.
Not only did the envisioned statement crumble over a few words but the religious leaders came away even more upset over Tancredo's comments linking Islam to the French riots and to a Sept. 11 memorial.
"To me, the problem is not where the statement broke down," said Joyce Rubin of the Denver office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), part of the interfaith group.
"The problem is that Congressman Tancredo continues to characterize and blame a whole religion and a whole group of people based on the actions of a few extremists and hasn't apologized for it," Rubin said.
The interfaith group included Shiite Imam Ibrahim Kazerooni, Rima Sinclair of Muslims Intent on Learning and Activism, and Methodist minister Chuck Mowry of the Interfaith Alliance of Colorado.
Will Adams, a spokesman for Tancredo, said Tancredo made a good-faith effort to negotiate and the ADL and Interfaith Alliance are left-leaning groups trying to score political points.

--- Truth hurts
"Joyce Rubin of the Denver office of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), part of the interfaith group. 'The problem is that Congressman Tancredo continues to characterize and blame a whole religion and a whole group of people based on the actions of a few extremists and hasn't apologized for it'"
--- "a few extremists" that the majority of the (alledged) "moderates" of that religion have also not apologized for.
We have to remember that Tancredo was only saying to do to the islamics the same thing that they had already done to America. The reason that the islamics attacked the WTC was that they considered it a 'holy site' to our material culture.
I really like this guy. Has the gonads to say the truth, not this ROP crap other politicans including Bush spew.
[Will Adams, a spokesman for Tancredo, said Tancredo made a good-faith effort to negotiate and the ADL and Interfaith Alliance are left-leaning groups trying to score political points.]
Absolutely, and one day these same left wing nuts be murdered, raped and pillaged by the Islamic terrorists if America fails to stop terrorism. You can NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH FACIST DEMS OR ISLAMIC TERRORISTS, you can only fight against them.
bttt
Worth repeating!
Tancredo said that it could certainly be one option on the table to consider.
Who do they think committed the riots? Mimes?
Don't worry, Tom. This whole interfaith mess is a bunch of crap! It is religious PC nonsense. It has no place in our culture. Respect is one thing, but to force people to accept the fanaticism of the worst religions, as if they are really okay is suicidal!
Little kids eventually learn one cannot just throw out whatever enters one's head without getting in a heap of trouble. Too bad Tancredo hasn't learned this fundamental lesson of maturity.
Tom's problem is that people take things out of context and use them for sound bites.
No his problem is just what I referenced. It was a stupid statement unworthy of a US Congressman. We have allies among the Islmanic world and he seems to have no concern for our strategic needs endangering them to run his mouth.

You're right, Islam had absolutely nothing to do with the riots in france! Not as thing! Move along, nothing to see here...
Who was talking about France? Not Tancredo, not me. Try and keep the subjects staight. My problem with the Blabbermouth is his disregard of our strategic needs while puffing up himself through wild rhetoric helpful to none.
He is a loon and makes conservatives look like loons.
You're assuming Tancredo's words were unintentional. I've always assumed he knew what he was saying, and that others supported (pre-supported) saying them. In response to the notion of a terrorist nuclear attack on the US, he said that the US would attack back against some prime islamic target. That was always the policy under Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD), and it kept the US and the USSR from attacking each other during the entire cold war. Tancredo's words simply updated that policy to the world war ongoing between Islamo-fascism and Western Democracy. Use nuclear against us and we'll use nuclear against you. It's that simple. MAD.

You were talking about the statement Tancredo made in the article this thread is about. Since you didn't mention any other statement, I assume you meant the one this thread was about. My mistake. You're apparently talking about some other quote of his which isn't mentioned in this thread, either in the article or your post. I apologize for my lack of mind-reading ability.
"He is a loon and makes conservatives look like loons."
No, he's one of the few GOPers with a spine. After past interactions with you, I'm not surprised you have trouble distinguishing the two.
Interfaith group??? What a joke...Water and oil do not mix...Tancredo needs to avoid this group of fakirs...
Tandcredo was talking about France.
I stand with Tancredo on this one, too. He is a bold man. These things need to be said. If we ONLY pander and appease 'the moderate muslims' -- the silent, cowering ones -- someone absolutely MUST speak the Truth. And of course, Truth hurts.
AND, we're darn proud of him. For what he said, and for sticking by it, and for expanding his remarks to cover the Muslim riots in France also.
