If we can't defeat the insurgency in Iraq, China will understand the significance of that. After the 2008 Olympics, they will simply annex Taiwan, daring us to oppose them. If we don't oppose them (as we've promised Taiwan we would), no country in the world would have reason to expect us to help them in their time of need and so they will make every effort to accomodate themselves to China and its wishes. The real beginning of the twilight of America will have begun.

It appears that the Democrats care nothing for any of that. They're intent on grabbing back the reins of power, without any regard for the health of the horse they'd be riding if they succeeded.

So will Islamists worldwide. It will be great victory for them in their war against the West, with all the implications that holds. But , as you say, it's a small price to pay in the struggle to regain a Democratic majority.
