The last-minute addition of language that expresses congressional support for a guest worker program into the immigration bill headed for the House floor Thursday has a group of Republican members up in arms.

What's going on with House leadership appears to be nothing more than a charade to get amnesty through. If this language isn't removed those who support true enforcement ought to just vote to kill the bill.

Speaking to my congressman last night on this issue...

The problem, about 30 *republicans*, otherwise known as RINOS from the northeast and midwest have jumped ship on this issue.

They don't have border problems, but they do have integrity problems.

The bill is being held hostage *not* by the Democrats, but by registered republicans.

THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | December 15, 2005 | Stephen Dinan
The House Judiciary Committee chairman yesterday backed off his provision to make illegal aliens felons and instead proposed a misdemeanor charge for unlawful presence, angering some Republicans who wanted the higher penalty. The House is expected to vote today on a border enforcement and employee work verification bill, which calls for more U.S. Border Patrol agents, mandatory database checks of employees' eligibility to work, expanding expedited removal of illegal aliens and allowing sheriffs along the border to help enforce immigration law. Some Republicans already were threatening to try to block the bill if they didn't get a chance to vote...

Start building the fence.

It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

We were warned that Jorge had this planned.

At least they could sharpen the knife they keep sticking in our backs.

To train a dog the first thing one has to do is get the dog's attention. Unfortunately we have to wait for the next election to make our point.

Here is the NumbersUSA web page that gives minute by minute updates on the progress of this bill in the House today:

NumbersUSA

I suggest that everybody burn up their Congress Critter phone lines if they start voting against the enforcement provisions.

Whatever happens in the House, the bill up for consideration Thursday is not likely to become law. The Senate is slated to take up immigration reform in February. A handful of reform proposals have been introduced, but two major bills - one by Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and another by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz. and Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., are the major ones.

Most of the bills being considered include both enforcement and guest worker measures.

Call your representatives and demand NO language is present in the final House bill that mentions "guest worker program or plan". Our hope lies with having debate on the enforcement amendments that provide actual border security, passage of the bill.Having the final conference report containing the same tough U.S. code that Americans are calling for is the goal.

MSG>Dear Congressman Hastert,
Please remove the guest worker provision from the Immigration bill. We have over 10 million illegal immigrants in the country due to your malfeasance over the past ten years. We want them deported and to apply LEGALLY to come to our country. You need to put up a fence on our southern borders and start arresting employers that employ illegal immigrants. You also need to cut off all aid to Mexico until they reform their rotten and corrupt country.
Sincerely

It was not clear Wednesday what made him agree to the new language. Sensenbrenner could not be reached.

The OBL perfidy knows no bounds!

The GOP needs to dump Sensenbrenner. He is as useful as teats on a boar. A Democrat would vote just about the same way he does, so you just as well have the real thing.

I was watching cspan2 today and there were Democrats from the House (including Napolitano, Jackson-Lee, Guitterez) complaining about how immigrants are going to be treated like criminals because of the new legislation.

The text of the legislation is not available at the House website yet, but I did find the roll call vote for it.

12-15-2005
BILL TITLE: Providing for the consideration of H.R. 4437, Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2005/roll636.xml
passed by a vote of 220 to 206; 7 Republicans voted NAY, 1 Democrat voted YEA
