This article explains fully how the president can legally wiretap US citizens without a warrant. It cites the law, something the left is loathe to actually do.

Amazing how the MSM "covers" this issue with shrill and uninformed pols, hacks, and flaks, while C-SPAN goes once again to the TWO most informed experts in the U.S. for an uninhibited and civil 45 minute discussion.

A caller to SPIN yesterday said that we would have a civil war this summer if Bush and Cheney are not impeached.

CSPIN screens it's calls and just loves these crazies if they're attacking the President.

Concur.

Contrast with this last caller who, while long-winded, was rational and reasoned. I'd bet money on how both of them voted in the last election.

There are one or two loose ends in 50 USC 1802 that leave me with concern Peach. The WashTimes doesn't mention it, nor does NRO in their recent couple of articles.

I'm guessing that the alleged "secret Executive Order" that's apparently out there may be the "fix" for 1802 in terms of applying it to terrorist organizations and/or individuals.

I say this because PATRIOT Act II - which was filibustered last week - also included a fix or two for FISA, in particular making terrorist individuals subject to FISA without respect to an "organization", but again not really fixing the little hole or two in 1802.

Nah, I think they just get a large percentage of loons over on the Rat line.

We see that sort of nonsense statement fairly frequently from extreme Lefties. They really, really don't want a piece of that action.

BTW, I love the way Victoria Toensing keeps getting back to the "these people are confused" theme, which is really a nice way of saying they haven't a clue.

I just yelled at the TV.

James Bamford just made the comment that Clinton was impeached for a "minor sexual disgression".

NO! NOT ONLY NO, BUT *HELL NO!!*

He was impeached for lying *under oath* to avoid the consequences of a sexual harassment lawsuit. Not for getting a Monica.

And anyone who makes a statement like Bamford just made is either ignorant or disingenuous. Bamford seems like a pretty informed guy, so I'm going with disingenuous. He lost significant credibility with me on that one.

The moonbat lefty callers are entertaining. They've long past going over the edge. But RAT politicians trying to capitalize on the NSA story are making their fringe base even more nuts than ever. This means RATS have to give up any hope of capturing national security territory in the political landscape. All they are doing is reminding level-headed people of why we voted for George Bush.

Bamford is very much the leftie. But he does know something about FISA and NSA.

By the way, when Bamford argued for the special prosecutor, Toensing chuckled, and I had exactly the same reaction.

As Toensing pointed out, Bamford has no idea what transpired to provide the Commander In Chief and President with surveillance authority against al Qaeda.

It's between the White House, the AG, Congress, and FISC.

And it's classified.

This is where Bamford exposes his own leftie bias: he thinks even classified activities ought to be in the public domain, at least when a Republican uses them.

I just realized that the Lefties only become concerned about the Constitution when it's convenient for them...

Bamford has to be watched closely. He personally detests Bush and makes few bones about it in his latests book.

Agree wholeheartedly with these later posts here from both of you.

Back to my pet peeve with Bamford for a moment, he is knowingly advancing a Big Lie with the "Clinton only impeached over a Monica" statement.

Given that, I expect he is advancing a lie in other areas as well.

Bamford's lie is more than a slip of the tongue or a minor misstatement so we must assume he's willing to lie on any issue to make his point.

Credibility now ZERO!

If you read 50 U.S.C. s 1802, it clearly authorizes surveillance without a previous court order, but it also seems to require that the Attorney General immediately seek a court order authorizing the same.
